Stress- time off in a mid senior role

Wondering about others experiences with being in a position of needing time off due to stress.

i am in a niche IC role in a global company, the company is about 1000 employees so not an enterprise org. I hold a good role and have been at the company for 10 years, well respected etc.

Over the last 12 months I have been struggling to cope both professionally and personally. SEN child who we have had to take out of school, financial pressures and work challenges. It all came to a head last week after an expected bereavement and being dropped into a very visible external work event without being consulted. I wfh but completely broke down and had to to take the rest of the day off. I’ve had to pull out of some events this week.

I know I am in danger of falling apart completely and, possibly a breakdown. I have never been in this position before and wanted to hear from others who have taken time out. Did you get signed off with the GP? Did it negatively impact your career? I work for a US firm so I think it probably will regardless of what they say.

Sorry you feel that way. I had a Sen child out of school for a time so I understand how stressful it is. If you feel you need to take time off then do it. But the issues will still be there when you come back, so you need to think of ways that you can relieve that stress going forwards.
