Anyone else had any whoppers come out already? Spider season usually starts end of summer but there was a mahoosive one on the bedroom curtains at 2.30am. Im petrified of them and it took me 3 attempts to catch it with the spider catcher cos it was so bloody fast. My mum said there was one in the hall the other night and my sis has one running round her lounge. I'm just going to have to burn the house down aren't I 😭

I’ve had a few but they are females, probably looking for a good hiding place before the big males come

ByeByeByeee · 08/05/2025 19:45

Oh no!!! I haven't yet. I actually don't mind little spiders, but we had some monsters last year and they have honestly put me off for life.

I got bitten by something about a week ago, so definitely think the bugs are well and truly out now 😅

Isn’t it the females that are the whoppers?

We have had a couple here too and I am bloody terrified of them.

828Pax · 08/05/2025 19:51

yep 2 bloody huge ones last week!!!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/05/2025 19:53

No big ones but last night when I went to feed the guinea pigs an egg sack had just popped and thousands of baby spiders were swarming the front of the cage 🤢 🫣😭

Flatwhiteforever · 08/05/2025 19:53

We've had a few small/medium ones already. Just waiting for massive one next!!

Wildywondrous · 08/05/2025 19:56

We've had a couple of really big ones in the bath too, they seem chunkier than normal with slightly shorter legs.
I'm not great with big moths either and have seen a few big ones the past couple of weeks.

Crinkle77 · 08/05/2025 20:02

I've never seen the massive ones this time of year but we never had any last year so I had a feeling they'd be out earlier. I've got cellar spiders in my bedroom which I can tolerate cos they just hang about in their web minding their own business. And we've had loads of bloody wasps too. Nature is up the pole!

Sorry yeah the females are slightly bigger but we don’t usually see those at full size as they stay in the web in a dark corner having the babies. The big ones we see wandering in late summer are the males looking for them, with the “boxing gloves” on their feelers
I haven’t ever seen a female at full size, bet it’s huge!

Foundationhelp · 08/05/2025 20:06

So I heard on TV that there is 2 spider seasons from a spider expert 😂…. 1 April time and then September. I notice it each year now that it’s when they come out. I’m not a fan!

My cellars are always welcome as they eat the house spiders, I don’t know how as they are so fragile looking in comparison!

Crinkle77 · 08/05/2025 20:32

@Disturbia81 love the cellar spiders. The horrible spiders get caught in their webs then the cellars spin their web around them and wrap them up. It's fascinating to watch.

@Foundationhelp I didn't know that about 2 spider seasons. I've never noticed them in April/May.

Yep, April and September. They can’t even keep it to one season.
we had a whopper earlier this week, really chunky body - DH lost the coin toss and had to remove it.

This two seasons thing is terrible news. Dh is properly phobic, so I have to get rid of them every time 😒

Smithson85 · 08/05/2025 20:59

I feel bad getting rid of them but every time a bit of sunlight shines through the house I realise I'm living like Miss Havisham and the bastard cobwebs are everywhere

MigAndMog · 08/05/2025 21:07

Yep - 3 absolute whoppers in about a week. Definitely not the same one coming back as they all had the kids' pile of school books dropped on them from a height!

luckylavender · 08/05/2025 21:08

May is always prime spider month

SpidersSpidersEverywhere · 14/05/2025 03:47

I’ve just posted as just got rid of my third ginormous spider this month. Feeling very creeped out and worried about them crawling over me while I sleep…..😩

Crinkle77 · 14/05/2025 19:25

Hope I'm not jinxing myself but not seen any more. However I'm paranoid as hell and checking my bed and clothes all the time.

Crunchymum · 14/05/2025 20:24

I always thought it was April and September as well.

Don't want to tempt fate by saying i've not seen any although I suspect the cats catch and eat anything they see. They aren't too fond of flies, catch them no trouble but leave their bodies for me to deal with. Haven't found any spider bodies though 😕

Disturbia81 · 14/05/2025 20:28

Well I had a big one walk over my foot the other day (thought it was my cats whiskers 🤣) and it went behind the bed so just went to sleep. Woke up the next morning and it was on my pillow dead and wrapped up in web.. the cellar spider living in the corner left me a present!

heidyho · 14/05/2025 20:28

Uh oh time to dig out the peppermint spray!
