If you had OCD, would you ever tell work?

If you had OCD moderately to severely, but it was more or less well controlled most of the time with medication, would you bother to tell your boss/workplace? Can you see any advantages to letting them know?
Have had OCD since I was c.11 years old. Am now mid-40s.

Yes is the short of it I always declare it. While I am stable you never know what the future is going to bring and I would much rather be up front. Declaring it also means you are protected under the equality act.

Thanks. I declared it on the health questionnaire when joining years ago but I believe that isn't disclosed to the employer, just to the insurer who would provide health-related work benefits...

Yes, my work know about it, because I've had episodes of illness related to it at times. I had a particularly bad period through pregnancy recently. I've needed sick leave.

I do work as a Mental Health Nurse, so it wouldn't look great on my team if I couldn't talk about it lol.

I think you should always declare to occupational health as this protects you legally. I don't think you need to share the details with your boss unless you want to or you think you'll need time off for it/appointments etc. OCD is sadly quite misunderstood. It depends on your relationship with your boss. I also think it would enough to say 'I have a diagnosed mental health condition which I manage really well most of the time from the support of my GP/medication. If that changes, I'll let you know'.
