Accidentally friended new boss on Facebook

Genuinely accidental, I wasn’t even stalking him he came up on people you may know (how did this happen, my work isn’t on my FB profile and we are fully remote so have never met him in person, although I do have is phone number so is that it? )
anyway I must have clicked add friend by accident but I didn’t realise until I got notification that he has accepted.

He’s a nice enough guy but I would NEVER want to be friends with my boss on FB, let alone one I have only just met. What do I do? Quietly unfriend and hope he doesn’t notice? Never mention it again? Fess up and explain?
I’m so embarrassed 🙈

I'd say nothing and then quietly unfriend in about a weeks time and hope he doesn't notice?

DNAwrangler · 07/05/2025 19:01

Definitely don’t explain. I wouldn’t unfriend either tbh. Can you change settings so he can’t see much?

Cerialkiller · 07/05/2025 19:02

Oh no!!! Worst nightmare. Yes quietly unfriend after a little while, maybe on a busy Monday or something.

I got a follow request from a old manager on insta when I sent myself up on it recently. He's a creepy bastard and I wanted nothing to do with him, fortunately instagram doesn't inform people if they get blocked. Is FB the same?

Eminybob · 07/05/2025 19:03

He must think I’m a right weirdo. But then he did accept so…

Ah noooo! Nightmare!
fyi - I’ve read before that those “suggestions” are at least partly generated by people who’ve looked you up - so it might be that he was stalking you instead!

Oh god I hope not as I have done my fair share of stalking in the past

Unfriend and then if he mentions it tell the truth 'you came up as a person i may know and as I was scrolling I hit the button without realising so it wasn't intentional, nothing against you but I didn't mean to click add friend sorry'

AliBaliBee1234 · 07/05/2025 19:43

I wouldn't unfriend, that's weird and he'll definately notice.

I would just laugh it off and apologise saying 'sorry for the facebook ad, you were in a recommended friends list'

Just adjust your settings so he can’t see what you post. Simple!
