I need a room for a couple of hours on one night next month -will likely get to hotel about 4am (dropping off passengers at Gatwick airport)

Want to sleep for 4/5 hours then get train into central London - chose Croydon because rail link to London looks good (have looked at Horsham as it has free parking and is next to the train station but that is 1h train)

However Croydon has no parking so will need to park at Ruskin Square- what will walking at this time be like? Hampton by Hilton seems to be 1 minute away and Premier Inn 5mins.

Would you park there? Or recommend any other alternatives?

I don't want to travel very far from airport or spend much more than £100. Thanks

Final shameless bump.

I probably wouldn’t feel very comfortable walking in that part of Croydon at 4am, even though it’s not far.

I don’t know Horsham well but I think I’d take the hour and free parking.

I can’t think of anywhere with parking Near East Croydon. Sorry.

Stay at Gatwick and get the Gatwick express in. I wouldn’t be walking around Croydon at that time.
Or redhill. Fast trains into London. Cheap hotels.

Thats the roughest part of Croydon tbh. I park at Ruskin Square often, and thats fine, but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable walking around there on my own at 4am, and I am hardened south Londoner.

What about the Travel Lodge at Whyteleafe? Just a bit further South, reasonable and much quieter/safer. Walking distance to both Whyeleafe and Upper Warlingham train stations for quick and easy train into London. I wouldn't normally be keen on a Travel Lodge but this one was basic but fine when I parked some visitors there recently.

Not Croydon, not at that hour. The regular trains from Gatwick are good, if you didn’t want the expense of the Gatwick express.

MissMoneyFairy · 07/05/2025 19:28

I'd just stay in a hotel near Gatwick, there are loads under £100 and there are plenty of trains into London. Why faff about in Croydon.

BudgetHotel · 07/05/2025 21:04

Thank you all, will have a look at all your suggestions - I ruled out Gatwick as didn't see where the train station was, possibly was being a dinlo

The train station is in the airport. It’s also on oyster / contactless so quite cheap into London if you use Thameslink.

It's the parking that makes staying at Gatwick not as attractive, especially when adding up the hoppa bus to get to airport.

Looking at the Whyteleafe at the moment - says parking is attached so that sounds better.

Thanks for this . Have booked it for next month, it is perfect as I can pre-book parking space, so I've paid for that already so know I have a space which is a relief at 4am

Oo

Avoid Croydon, I don't like it in the daytime, let alone night! Like someone else said, stay near airport or Redhill.
