Do you take makeup on holiday

I do have a bit of a chuckle at all the tonnes of makeup women's magazines/influencers whoever seem to suggest you should be carting off on holiday. I've never taken any except when I have a wedding to go to while we're away or I've known we're going or are likely to go somewhere formal. At home I only wear it for work or if I'm going out in the evening.

Interested if it's common to take a lot with you or not?

I take a pressed powder, bronzer, mascara and a tinted lip balm.

Siloportem · 06/05/2025 08:32

I take the same makeup I wear day to day. Because that's how I like to look. Obviously if you don't wear it day to day, you won't wear it on holiday either.

Bit of an obvious one, really.

RoachFish · 06/05/2025 08:33

Yes, I take my normal every day make up with me because I like to wear it when I go out at night. I can usually refrain from chuckle when I look at it though. I guess my sense of humour is different to yours.

I put other - simply because I have taken makeup on the last 3/4 holidays I have been on - and never worn it! I don't wear it at home so don't know why I cart it across to other countries. Next time I go away I will not be taking any.

Bookaholic73 · 06/05/2025 08:35

If going somewhere hot, I take mascara, tinted moisturiser and a tinted lip gloss. That’s it.

Atarin · 06/05/2025 08:36

I probably wear more make up on holiday as when I get dressed up (dinner, theatre, opera, etc) I like to be a bit more creative and wear things like gold eyeshadow, lipstick (I never wear lipstick at home).

I love the artistry and creativity of make up, but I rarely bother too much at home (I work from home and wear mascara as I’ve got pale eyelashes and sometimes tinted moisturiser to cover rosacea). It feels like a nice treat on holiday as I’ve got more time to relax and get ready. It barely takes up any room in my bag.

I think if you’re not a make up person then you wouldn’t bring it. I don’t bring tongs or straighteners as I don’t really do it at home and would never do it away. Just like I wouldn’t bring my running gear!!

You're clearly not into makeup wheras I am so of course take it on holiday? It's like asking why people who read take books

Your post intimidated that by going out for meals and dressing up that make up was needed.

Yes, it is. For me. You do you!

MrsPlantagenet · 06/05/2025 08:41

I wouldn’t dream of not taking makeup.

I don’t wear any during the day, but really enjoy putting it on for the evening.

Exactly. I don’t take a skateboard either because I don’t skateboard at home.

Well if you don't wear it normally, then why would you take it with you. If you DO wear it, then of course you take it with you. Don't really understand the point of your post. It is a bit like saying why do people take bikinis on holiday because you don't wear them.

Sandandsea123 · 06/05/2025 09:03

I very rarely wear makeup at “home”, only when going out really. I always take it on holiday!! Like to put some on when we go out at night; I never wear much anyway but I like to have bronzer, mascara, lip gloss & concealer.

GroovyChick87 · 06/05/2025 09:04

Yes I do. I don't take loads and loads but I have everything I need in a smaller make up bag. I like being made up every day but more of a natural look.

Artesia · 06/05/2025 09:09

Why on earth does it make you chuckle OP? You don't use it, so you don't take it. Other people do, so they do. Not exactly a rib tickler is it?

latetothefisting · 06/05/2025 09:17

So basically chuckling at the idea that people do things differently to you? Hilarious.....

Surely if you applied the most basic level of logic you'd realise that
Shops full of huge amounts of makeup
+
Most women you see out and about wearing some make up
= most women wear at least some make up out most of the time

Therefore you, very rarely wearing make up are an outlier. Which is obviously fine. But I don't get your rational for assuming why women suddenly would stop wearing it on holiday?

If you don't wear make up on a day to day basis it makes sense you wouldn't take it on holiday
But surely if your starting concept is that most people use the same amount of make up on holiday as they do at home then the only logical conclusions is that most women will also wear make up on holiday - at least the same amount as they wear at home?

Not to mention that you do seem to understand that even women who dont generally wear it (like you)are more likely to wear make up (and women who normally wear it tend to wear more make up) when they go "out out" -for a nice meal, dancing, an event etc. And, depending on the holiday, most people tend to like to do something 'special' like that at least once when away.

Yes I take make up with me on holiday. Big wow.

Quite!

Hayley1256 · 06/05/2025 09:20

I take it for when we go out in the evenings

The post really didn't it indicated that the poster liked wearing make up for nights out.

Loulo6098 · 06/05/2025 09:22

Yes I wear make up on holiday. I was unaware it deducts from my enjoyment abroad.

Life must be truly hilarious to OP as people have individual tastes that may differ from hers.

No, her post intimated that SHE wanted make up for going out. You then appeared to tell her off, inntimating that becuase YOU dont' wear make uo when gong out, she shouldn't either.

I do like the analogy of taking books from upthread. It's exactly the same. Dh loves working out so he always takes workout clothes on holiday, I don't so I don't take any. YOu take on holiday the things you LIKE.

Ilovelowry · 06/05/2025 11:27

Yes. I put cc cream and mascara on for breakfast once I've suncreamed my face.

Then the same again after my shower in the evening.

I don't get a tan and I don't like looking pasty.

Blarn · 06/05/2025 11:36

I do. I don't wear a lot anyway but I took eyebrow mascara, mascara, blusher, tinted moisturiser, powder compact and a tinted lipbalm on holiday a couple of weeks ago. Wore the eyebrow mascara (white eyebrow hairs, why!) and blusher every day. We tend to do things and go places on holiday, and I enjoy wearing a little but if make up. Wouldn't bother if I knew I was going to spend the whole day in the pool or the beach.
