I'm maybe in the market for a small camera...

I go to a lot of gigs & see quite a few people in the crowds with little cameras they're also able to record on.

Can anyone recommend a small/lightweight, and not expensive! camera I could take a look at please?

In reality, I'll probably stick to my phone, but I like the idea of using an actual camera.

Thanks!

Oh dear…I must be really old now if people are old enough to go to gigs but not to know about digital cameras 🫣 👵

Wow, that was amazingly helpful when looking at something I know nothing about! Thanks so much!

A lot of the YouTubers my kids watch have little Go Pro cameras, I think.

Edit to add Google threw up this page of reviews of the kind of thing you're after. Might give you somewhere to start looking at reviews and prices.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic, I genuinely meant it. I remember going out to clubs with friends and they would all take digital cameras. This post made me realise that it isn’t just the disposable camera crew that are old, it’s those of us fast approaching 40 that are also old now too.

Apologies if it sounded like I was being a dick, it was unintentional

I'm over 40 - never had a digital camera in my life unless you count the kiddies on dd1 (18yo) had when she was little! I have literally not a clue what I'm looking at or for 🤷‍♀️.

<wistfully remembers her PowerShot>

Try googling “TikTok vlogging camera”. Wide price range

I have a Canon Powershot that I'm very happy with - it's a few years old. The Canon Ixus is also supposed to be good. Canon have a reputation for excellent colour reproduction.

To make it worthwhile over your phone, choose one with as powerful an optical zoom as you can afford - that is where cameras come into their own.

Whatever you go for, read the reviews of it before buying. You won't get miracles from a compact camera but you don't want utter crap (steer clear of Agfa!).

Try this, has some reviews and rankings. You can switch between how they are ranked (price, recommended etc)

I'm not TRYING to be a twat, I promise...

But apparently I can't stop myself from saying PLEASE just enjoy the gig and don't record it on your phone/a camera.

The good bit is being there. The bad bit is all the people taking crap videos all the time.

Fancytallglass · 04/05/2025 21:49

Please don't record at a gig. Awful behaviour.
