How long after applying for a job would you expect to hear back?

Ds has applied for a few jobs. They are all lifeguard roles, he has the qualification and almost a year of experience.

It’s been over a week and he hasn’t heard back. Closing date hasn’t passed yet.

He's phoned up to check they received his application.

Do you think there’s still a chance?

It’s so disheartening, he applies for loads of jobs but just doesn’t hear back.

If the job advert is still open, why would he hear before then?

When the job advert closes, I would say he should expect to hear within a week to 10 days if selected for an interview. He may not hear if he is not selected.

Thanks, so quite usual not to hear back before the closing date has ended?

I haven’t a clue, hence asking.

His job called him in for interview the day after he applied and offered on the spot. The advert was still
open in that case.

definitely after the closing date! I'd give it at least a week after closing to give them a chance to review the applications and make a short list.

I think most places would shortlist once the closing date has passed

I would not expect to hear from them before the closing date. In most places the cvs will not even be looked at before the closing date has passed. Even then it could be a couple of weeks depending on how much pressure they are under to fill the vacancies.
