I fancy a BBQ this weekend, but am sick of hotdogs and burgers.

What are your favourite things to BBQ? Happy with any veggie alternatives, or fish, or meat. Not fussy, but don’t want burgers or hot dogs m.

Some supermarkets do prepared (marinaded) meat to BBQ. Waitrose and M&S are usually good. Not sure if it's a bit early in the season though.

I never serve sausages and burgers at a BBQ
Its not the sort of thing we generally eat so why would we at a BBQ?
I do garlic mushrooms, baked brie, steak, prawns, Sometimes a butterflied leg of lamb or spatchclock chicken (pre cooked in the oven), garlic new potatoes
Green salad, potato salad, tomato salad

Needmorelego · 01/05/2025 19:19

Fish

CandelabraCat · 01/05/2025 19:26

We mostly BBQ things on sticks! (Skewers)
Marinaded chicken or lamb. Halloumi and pepper skewers, with optional chorizo.
At this time of year, we also BBQ a lot of asparagus.
Serve with potatoes or tortilla, and salad.

Hi op maybe too late for weekend but “Weber's Complete Barbeque Book” is the best start to upping your bbq game and an instant read thermometer if you start to cook thicker meats.

Few simple things to try thin cut pork loin steaks with a sprinkle of salt and pepper and paprika.

Butterfly chicken breast (to make then thinner) marinated in coriander and lime served in bbq warmed pits and hummus

BBQ corn with butter

Warm cookie dough with ice cream

TheChosenTwo · 01/05/2025 19:32

We do a lot of joints on the bbq, sausages and burgers are my idea of a bbq from hell 😂
Really thick steaks, spatchcock chicken, butterflied leg of lamb, prawns, kebabs of some kind. Veg goes so nicely on the bbq too, asparagus, long stemmed broccoli (toss in a vinegar/oil dressing when they’re cooked and still really hot), a white cabbage quartered and basted with gravy from the weekends roast or stock, halloumi, corn on the cobs with chilli and garlic butter…

PaintDecisions · 01/05/2025 19:34

Chicken, halloumi, lamb kebabs, steaks, corn on the cob, sausages... Lots of options

Cherrysoup · 01/05/2025 19:43

We’ve had barbecue every night this week. My Dh is a barbecue fiend! He used seasoned wood and a pizza stone for a pizza. The next day we had really nice steak, sausages and chicken wings, which he’d covered in Kickin* Chicken (Walmart). Then last night, he made different lovely sausages and salmon fillet. Tonight was chicken thighs and pork chops. He normally does veg-courgettes, peppers, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, sweetcorn-in a metal barbecue container (it has holes). I’ve had a portion for lunch daily. Halloumi has also featured.

He does lamb rack and whole corn on the cob occasionally. Burgers never feature. My bil does sardines on his, but the bones are very fiddly.

BigDahliaFan · 01/05/2025 19:43

Green beans, microwave for 2 mins first. Whole pea pods, then salt them and eat like edamame beans in the pod.garlic bread. Camembert in a box. Butterflied leg of lamb.

MadKittenWoman · 01/05/2025 19:52

Halloumi. Corn on the cob. Skewers of smoked tofu, mushroom, red peppers and shallots marinated in soy sauce. Asparagus. Field mushrooms or red peppers with goats’ cheese. Pineapple, peaches or apricots in Amaretto.

We did our Christmas Turkey on the BBQ this year when the oven died on Christmas Eve.
Breakfast on the BBQ also good.
