Just finished watching Reacher and enjoyed it more than I expected to. So I'm going to give the books a try. Please will you tell me which your favourite one is to give me an idea of where to start? (I'm guessing they don't need to be read in order?)

One Shot, and in general the ones published earlier. Avoid the later ones by Lee child as they get kind of nasty violent, and the ones written with/by his brother still later are not as well written.

Have you seen the tv series? It’s not terrible. Well, the last one was but it started okay Grin

They don’t have to be read in order but the first one Killing Floor is a good place to start. The first one I read was The Hard Way and I still really enjoy re-reading it, Persuader is a cracker as well. I luffs Jack Reacher even though I’ve only read the books and not seen the series

Don’t watch the last series if you’ve read Persuader, the book is great and they changed the storyline for the series. And dumbed him down. I was so disappointed. Although I did make it to the end for the eye candy.
I’d agree all the earlier ones are better. You don’t have to read them in order. And the ones with his brother, you can tell which parts he’s written. Unfortunately.

They are best read in order. The earlier ones are the best.

I think "The Hard Way" is the best. It was the first one that I ever read and convinced me to read the rest. I agree the latest ones aren't as good.

Which channel is Reacher on?

tiredoflondonbutnotlife · 01/05/2025 22:47

Amazon Prime.

reesespieces123 · 01/05/2025 22:48

They are kind of all the same....

JellyTotsAreYum · 01/05/2025 23:15

"Tripwire" is the first one I read and my favourite of the ones I've read (not read the later ones as I found them getting a bit "samey")

PangolinPan · 01/05/2025 23:22

I believe Persuader is generally considered the best. I quite liked Echo Burning too.

alcoholfreelife · 01/05/2025 23:42

I second Echo Burning, it’s really good storyline, to be fair all his earlier ones are really good, Ive been re reading them for years but like other posters have said I find the later one with his brother co writing aren’t that great which is a shame!

itsallaboutthehoney · 01/05/2025 23:44

My personal favourites are Killing Floor and The Visitor

Misak · 02/05/2025 18:08

Thanks for the replies :).

@HollidayRanger yes I've just finished watching the series (and then spent an inordinate amount of time googling Alan Ritchson ...).
