I'm hosting about a zillion13 year olds at the weekend for DD's birthday.

We're going to have mocktails as it fits with the theme - can anyone recommend some? I'm not a huge cocktail drinker, so I'd appreciate any tips!

DS is going to act as barman, so I though maybe 2 or 3 different choices that are easy to do but look great.

Maybe one with salt round the edge for example, that's pretty fun isn't it?

use sugar syrup to coat the edge of the glass instead of lemon and use granulated sugar instead of salt - they’ll like it a lot more! Just do Shirley temples. Get some cocktail umbrellas and cherry stems to jazz them up.

Great tips, thanks!

I've got cocktail umbrellas already - will add cherry stems to the shopping list :)

Off to google Shirley Temples..

I could imagine virgin strawberry dacquiris would go down well and look very attractive - basically a blended mix of Sprite, strawberries, caster sugar and lemon juice.

I had a virgin mohito last week which was delicious, but maybe slightly too adult a taste: limes, lime cordial or syrup, tonic water and brown sugar, but it would work with ginger beer instead of the tonic water.

They’ve got a new mocktail at our local Greene King pub called ‘Monsoon Kiss’. It’s cranberry juice with Schweppes Melon Watermelon Soda, it’s pale pink in colour and quite sweet which suites me fine. I’m planning on making it over the summer.

Pina colada?

orange juice with a little grenadine (pomegranate syrup) drizzled in, pineapple juice and coconut milk, mango and lemonade

Simple but apple juice and ginger beer works really well together. You could also add fresh ginger. Add a few spinach leaves to make it really green if you want and it won't affect the taste.

A teaspoon of mango pulp and ginger beer tastes a bit exotic.
