Where to get a disposable (paper) table cloth in a pattern sophisticated enough for an adult dinner party?

I know "sophisticated disposable table cloth" may seem like an oxymoron, but sophisticated is a relative term 😁 - there are some reasonable options in supermarkets at Xmas, so I'm looking for the summer equivalent. Any pointers? I know about Tesco's "Fun Meadow" and Sainsbury's "Ditsy Bee" or "Carnival Flower" but they're not quire ticking the box.

Tescos, and chuck a glass of Champagne across it, and maybe a glass of red wine, and they say,
"Oh dear, look what old Chivers (the butler) has done. He's getting worse, but we can't let him go though, because the hounds love him."

I used to buy ‘banqueting roll’ Cut off what you need. It is surprisingly thick and cloth-like,
available from Bookers and maybe Amazon

I thought Ginger Ray might be suitable, their party stuff is lovely but I've checked and they don't do table covers! Napkins /plates /cups and everything partyware but no table covers🤔

There are some nice waterproof waffle tablecloths in the Range. I just bought one and it is great. It isn't like the old fashioned oilcloth variety that my granny used, but it is soft and I couldn't tell the difference between it and a "real" white tablecloth TBH.

I can't post a pic right now but it is called "Divante White waterproof waffle tablecloth, and it is also machine washable, it's 132x178cm. Might work. They cost around 8 quid.

I would have thought that plain white is the most “sophisticated” choice for a dinner party. M&S have a “feels like linen” disposable tablecloth that is white with a gold edge.

What is wrong with an actual fabric tablecloth though? They aren’t expensive and it would be cheaper in the long run, and far more environmentally friendly.

Cynic17 · 27/04/2025 20:58

Isn't it more sophisticated to just not have a tablecloth at all?

GarlicSmile · 27/04/2025 21:07

Depends, @KnickerFolder - if you were self-catering an event, it wouldn't be sensible to buy, launder and store 20-odd real tablecloths.

When I did it, I used sheets. But that was only logical because I happen to own a surfeit of white, cotton bed linen.

Banquet roll looks pretty handy! https://www.nisbets.co.uk/fasana-disposable-banquet-roll/cc594

OP said it’s for a “dinner party”, @GarlicSmile. I can’t imagine anyone describing an event that needs 20 tablecloths as a dinner party.

B&M?

I’ve also had some really good quality but cheap material tablecloths from B&M in the past, in case it’s the price of a ‘proper’ cloth that’s putting you off.

Try talking tables on amazon
Few different styles for adult parties

JellicleCat · 27/04/2025 23:07

Does it need to cover the whole table? I have used a roll of wrapping paper sellotaped to the underside of the table to keep it in place. It looks like a table runner as it doesn't cover the whole table but looks good. I do it at Christmas time with Christmassy wrapping paper but you should be able to find something to suit.

Edited

@rationalmoiI was in B&M today and saw the tablecloth I linked to in the party section, looks ok

Why do you need it to be disposable? If it on price, I got a cotton linen feel table cloth recently from Amazon and it's fab and only £20
