Hi, I really want to go to Edinburgh sometime in early August to see some shows. But I’m on a budget so need cheap train tickets if possible. Does anyone have any tips on when the cheapest train tickets are released?
thank you for any help!

Normally 12 weeks before travel. Accommodation is extortionate though in Edinburgh in August. Especially the weekend Oasis are playing.

Set an alert for Advance tickets on the Trainline, which usually go on sale 3 months in advance. But be aware that these tickets are restricted to one specific train, so think carefully re the time you want to travel.

I come up from London 3/4 times a month- I’m the expert!
Train
Use split ticket sites. Ideally on a big screen and play around with dates/ times/ routes. You should be able to get it under £100 return although I don’t think you can buy for August yet.
Coach
Cheap as chips, pay £2 extra to sit downstairs, you’ll often be alone and go overnight and sleep c£40 return.
Plane
I haven’t done it for a while, last year I often got tickets for £17 on Ryanair. Depending where you’re not coming from you have to add getting to and from the London airports, at least £10 but there’s goo availability for £70/80

Agree three months out with railcard is best although you can often get £50/60 fares nearer the time if you are flexible in times

Could you fly? Cheaper than a train possibly, depending where you're travelling from

Accommodation in August will be extortionate as the festival is on so if you were able to come at a different time I’d consider it.

We stayed in uni accommodation during the festival last year. It’s basic but clean and great breakfast!
