The reason I ask is that I’m taking DH to a very fancy hotel for his birthday. They pride themselves on basically being able to do anything a guest asks. So I’ve asked them to make a giant yellow French Fancy birthday cake and I want to gauge how much I should manage my own expectations.

Well it was £5.50 so not full cake size! It’s about 4 inches by 4 inches

I thought french fancy was a euphemism, I'm sorry.

It is giant! Not sure about this vanilla filling though, I thought they were just sponge, jam and buttercream.

I have seen a cake shop on social media who do that sort of thing - quite fancy trying the Irn Bru flavour.

Bettys in Yorkshire make their own.

The best ever ever ever ever ever (you get the drift) were M+S own brand around 20 years ago, far outranked anything else. Then they changed them and they were literally just like the Mr Kipling ones. So upset.

I did see a giant vanilla slice with jam the other week on FB which looked incredible

I had French fancies as my wedding cake, a proper giant one for the top tier and then layers of smaller individual ones. We were sting them for weeks!
