I'm looking forward to watching Eilish McColgan and Alex Yee run London from the comfort of my couch 😂

Are you running?
I'm pretty sure Manchester marathon is on tomorrow as well as London.

MaggieBsBoat · 26/04/2025 16:35

I love it.
Failed many years to get in but hope springs eternal and still on the ballot for next year (done Manchester 3 x as a consolation and that was also very good).

SwanOfThoseThings · 26/04/2025 16:36

Yes! Running is my least favourite activity and I'm a total couch potato generally but I always enjoy the marathon.

Motherknowsrest · 26/04/2025 16:40

Yes. Going to watch the wheelchairs, elites and the first speedy club runners, from Embankment tomorrow morning. I'll be muttering about why couldn't I have been born with gazelle legs like them and run really fast.....

Really want Hassan to win again.

boringingoring · 26/04/2025 16:42

Yes! We live on the route so we'll be going out to cheer them on.

It's also a really good excuse not to go anywhere

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 26/04/2025 16:46

My friend was supposed to be running but is injured and has been told not to do it. Such a shame.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 26/04/2025 16:53

No! The most boring of spectator sports! 4 hours of sunday wasted on elite athletes doing their day job, or 70,000 people dressed as a pint.
Yes, appreciate the sentiment, but something to take up 4 hours of tele? Non, merci!

NetflicksAndSleep · 26/04/2025 17:34

I’ll be in work when it’s on but I will be dot watching on the app when I can as I have several friends running it!

edwinbear · 26/04/2025 17:47

DS ran in the mini marathon Borough Championships this morning, it was great! We live in Greenwich so can’t really go anywhere on marathon day as all the roads are closed, so we just embrace it! I volunteered at the start last year which was really good fun.

Davros · 26/04/2025 19:39

You’d think it would be boring but it’s a great day out. So much fun, everyone enjoying themselves, lots of roads in central London closed. Oh, and there’s runners too! I will be watching from my couch this year

How do they select people. I heard they have thousands of people who want to do it, but only a certain Uber get selected.

I'll be up at 4.50am to drive to Blackheath as I'm volunteering at the yellow and red start. Such a brilliant volunteering job starting off wave after wave of excited runners. Can't wait. Need to go to bed ASAP!!!

Thecomfortador · 26/04/2025 21:14

Have an old friend who has got a place in the ballot this year. We started running together 15 years ago but my knees unfortunately do not agree with it so I've stopped, however she's doing her first marathon. Always enjoy watching it on telly, don't think it's boring at all.

mewkins · 26/04/2025 21:19

I love watching it. I ran it many years ago and have been to support friends on the course too. It's a great atmosphere. I like watching the elite athletes and also the interviews with runners.

CountryShepherd · 26/04/2025 21:25

I work in fundraising for a charity with quite a few runners, I'll be up there supporting our team at the after event.

You enter a ballot online. If your name is selected you then accept the place and pay for it. Last year apparently they had 11 people sign up for every place available.

I entered the ballot this morning. Have to wait till October to find out if I’m successful or not. I’ve tried a few times already and not got a place yet.

roycroppersshopper · 26/04/2025 21:29

I tried the ballot for 2020. First time I'd ever entered the ballot, I got in! I was amazed. By March I was running 19 miles without stopping. Then COVID hit, put my place into 2022 instead but didn't do it due to injury 🙃

Titsywoo · 26/04/2025 21:31

My dad is running the reverse London Marathon tonight from midnight I think. He has done a lot of London Marathons (and many many others) but decided to do this one instead this year. He is 72. Rather him than me! 😄

PiggyPlumPie · 26/04/2025 21:34

Love it! Watched since the beginning.

Have run it 6 times, last time in 2014 and every year am tempted to enter the ballot. But then reality kicks in and I know I'd struggle with the training.

So I'll stick to my 10ks - Balmoral today - and dream of the fitness of my youth!

I would do it in an uber

Oganesson118 · 26/04/2025 22:04

Not especially no.

SwanOfThoseThings · 27/04/2025 08:30

Just tuned in, anyone else?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2025 09:35

Yes, I'm watching. Emotional wreck after watching the Southport Dads interview, but it was lovely to see Alex Yee and his grandfather after that. Go Alex!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2025 09:35

And they're off! Wow.
