How to get new members interested in a gym?

My friend is a lovely man who's going through a hard time currently. His wife has an aggressive form of cancer and a lot of his time is taken up looking after her and his children. He owns a gym, one I go to but it doesn't have many members and isn't doing well and he isn't able to be around to help promote it.

The gym has a fb page, a tiktok, a 'local celebrity who uses it and posts about it, I've put flyers in my local pub too.

It's very reasonably priced and has a PAYG option.

I've done my bit in the sense I've shown new members around when he hasn't been able to be here and I always tag myself while there and post about the gym but I don't have a lot of an 'online presence'.

Is there something I'm missing, that I could easily do to help advertise it and encourage?

I've also taken friends with me to the gym and paid them in but they're usually one-offs.

What are the facilities like? And how much is the membership?

What is the local competition like? How does your gym compare price/facilities wise?

Reasons I would choose a gym:

  • it has classes on that I want to go to and I can choose them without having to pay a monthly membership
  • the classes are at useful times for me
  • it is pay as you go no a contract
  • there is a welcoming atmosphere to everyone and is not just full of men posing (even better if there is obviously lots of women lifting weights)
  • It has easy parking.
  • you can easily see classes in the website and book through the website

Does it have these? Are they advertised? What about giving every member a guest pass to bring a friend once a month? Or give friends 50% off their first month?

Word of mouth is key. Gyms is an over crowded market so I would need to know it was something special to bother going.
