WWYD - car seat dilemma

Travelling on a package holiday with Jet2, with our DC who is nearly 6 months old. Transfers are included and private rather than shared, so probably a taxi going off others experiences on the resort group - if not this then possibly a minibus. Transfer is about 10 miles / 30 mins each way. Jet2 cannot guarantee a seat.

We are allowed two baby items on board the plane. I think we should take the car seat and buy a special bag but DH is worried it will get handled carelessly.

DC will have outgrown the infant carrier in a few months and we are going to be purchasing ERF/stage 2 seats soon anyway, but I don’t know if we should buy another just for travelling, seat DC on our lap for the transfer, or take the seat and continue to use it after and hope it wasn’t too thrown about by baggage staff?

What would you do?

Tell the transfer company that you'll need a car seat for the transfer.

Jet2 won’t guarantee this, and also questionable where they’ve been stored and what their history is

I personally would just have baby on lap or sling, but I appreciate your concerns.. if you could find a good cheapy car seat, whether a forward facing or infant carrier (if he'd still be comfortable and not squished) then there's no harm bringing it along. You won't be so worried about it being bashed up and could keep it as a spare for GPs, sell it on or pass to a baby group/friend.

A sling is a good idea actually

I've never had an airport transfer where we weren't provided one. As for its previous use/storage etc I guess I have been under cautious in the past. If it will worry you then take one but I wouldn't want to take my every day use one or buy a cheap one (no better than whatever would be provided by the tx co..?) so personally I wouldn't take one. Can you ask on the resort group whether it's normal for the tx co to provide? Jet2 may not guarantee it but that could be something they say to cover themselves when in practice they're available.
