Vinted seller wants my address

Hi, would appreciate advice as haven’t come across this before. I bought an item and the seller has messaged me asking me to give her my address as she doesn’t have a printer and hand writes her own labels.

I would have thought that even if she chose not to print the label she would still see it to be able to copy my address?

I don’t know how this would be a scam or anything, it just feels a bit funny. Is it a common thing?

I don’t have a printer. I take mine to the local post office, they scan the automatically generated QR card and print the label which they then attach to the parcel. She doesn’t need your address. Unless she lives far away from a post office or drop off point. I find Vinted really easy

PoopingAllTheWay · 23/04/2025 19:47

How can it be a scam?

She has your address on the label but maybe just doesnt know how to generate the label

I know, I can’t see how it would be a scam, as sellers can see our address anyway on the label. It just seems weird so I wanted to check it wasn’t some scam I’m not smart enough to be aware of..

That’s what I would be doing too.

Don't send anything, the seller gets all the information they need through Vinted. If they don't use the label provided through the sale, the parcel won't track/update on Vinted and the sale will be cancelled anyway.

SamkaSabrinka · 23/04/2025 19:59

I don’t get why she needs you to tell her when it should be on the label. Which she can see, even if she can’t print it out.

Ah, that is really helpful, thank you.

Update. I have explained that if she doesn’t use the proper label process Vinted won’t be able to track the order. I have copied and pasted Vinted’s instructions for how she can take the QR code to the Royal Mail and have them print the label for her. She is still saying “but I can only see your name, it won’t give me your address until the label is printed”.

And then she tells me if I won’t give her the address I need to cancel the order. I don’t want a cancellation on my reviews! Surely if anyone’s going to cancel it should be her?

I would just tell her if she doesn't have a printer she can get a printed out one at the shop. Sounds odd and for the sake of 1 cancellation review I wouldn't bother with the sale.

Caffeineneedednow · 23/04/2025 20:27

As you already explained the process I would ignore at this point. If she doesn't send within the time frame using the QR code it will automatically cancel meaning she is the one with the cancellation and the money bounces back to you.

Thank you, that is what I will do! Sad not to get the item, but not enough to risk going outside of the system and having no redress if the item goes “missing in the post”.

Ignore her now. You don't need to cancel the sale it will automatically cancel if she doesn't send the item using the correct label.
You are right it shouldn't be you that gets the bad review for this so don't cancel it your side.
She should have actually bothered to read through how to use vinted.

CursiveCrisis · 23/04/2025 20:41

Surely if she’s handwriting the label she would also be paying for the postage? Which is silly as you’d have already paid it?

Hadn’t even thought of that! It’s all so weird. If she had no reviews I’d put it down to her being brand new to Vinted but by the looks of things she’s both bought and sold a number of times before. I wonder if she’s made her other buyers do this and they’ve just never questioned it?

OP posts:
Delatron · 23/04/2025 20:50

It’s weird as there’s no benefit to her writing the label herself as she’ll
have to pay for postage. She needs to use the pre paid one. You don’t need a printer as been discussed. Get it scanned in shop. It all sounds dodgy and you are right not to give it to her.

herbygarden · 23/04/2025 20:51

I buy and sell on Vinted all the time and agree this is weird! The best thing is not having to bother buying or writing labels etc?! I don't understand!

Summertimeblahness · 23/04/2025 20:53

Ignore her.
She probably can’t see your address but she doesn’t need it. I live far from any drop off points but if I’m selling I organise it so I post when shopping or at work.
She needs to review the options if she can’t access drop off points.

Only Royal Mail was available for me to choose so I guess she’d disabled the others because of the not having a printer thing. So she knew she’d have to go to the post office - why oh why would she not want to use their free printed label???

VerityUnreasonble · 23/04/2025 20:59

I've had someone ask for my address before for an inpost delivery - presumably as a bit of a backup option to the lockers. I sent them my address. Parcel arrived.

If she prints the labels she'd have your address anyway? So you're not at any risk by telling her? If she doesn't print the label / scan the code vinted won't show it as sent so the sale will auto cancel and either you'll end up with the item because she's posted it to you with a handwritten label and paid the postage separately or it won't show up and you'll have lost nothing? Or alternatively you'll end up with a parcel with a label and a handwritten address on paid for as normal and you'll click everything ok and release the money to the seller?

Alltheyellowbirds · 23/04/2025 21:32

Well. She’s just cancelled the order so I guess that’s that. The more I think about it the more I think it was dodgy after all - there is literally no benefit to her in not getting the label printed by the post office and instead choosing to hand-write her own and pay for her own postage. The only reason I can think to do that is if she was planning for the parcel to go “missing in the post” and hoped she could keep the item plus the money I’d paid.

ThatJustGreyDreamer · 11/01/2026 00:17

I know this post is old but can I ask, when you take a QR code to the post office do you have the buyers address? I've bought something off vinted and the way they are now messaging me I feel uncomfortable that they may have my address. I can tell the label has been printed at the post office so I'm hoping they don't have my address on their vinted or email. And I am guessing once a QR code has been used they can't get it off that either?

Neveranynamesleft · 11/01/2026 21:49

They shouldn't have your address if the label was printed at the post office. If you are not happy with something then ignore the seller and contact Vinted asap.
