Where can we go in the evening in Edinburgh with DS?

We're going on a last minute trip to Edinburgh tomorrow. We've been a few times before so can amuse ourselves during the day.

The problem with city breaks is what do do after dinner? Kids can't be in pubs, we don't want to sit in the hotel room...

He's just turned 13!

We went on a ghost tour which was fun.

There's fountain park, you can walk or take the bus. Cinema and bowling there. Also got a really fun mini golf course there.

Or the Omni centre also has a cinema or escape room. Somebody was telling me there's a new mini golf opened there too but haven't been so can't verify that.

Also quite a few escape rooms around which are good for that age.

The ghost tours are absolutely brilliant. Mercat tours are the best ones.

Also look at lane 7, Roxy Lanes and boom battle bar. Some allow kids later during the week but check the websites.

There's cinema at the Omni or the Everyman cinema in the St James.

There's axe throwing off Lothian road - search gameof throwing. There's a board game cafe too that opens later.

Yo could go for a walk up Arthur's seat.

Walk up Arthur's seat, it's light until about 8:30pm just now.

Get dessert, I recommend Coro Chocolate Cafe or Bun & Scoop. Both open late.

Another vote for the ghost tours, best we have ever been on.
Seriously spooky! 👻

NorthernGirlie · 23/04/2025 19:22

Wow - thanks everyone! So... the ghost tour would be right up my street but he's scared of his own shadow and would hate it.

Boom Bar looks amazing but over 18s from 7pm.

Last time just me and him went we hopped on a bus to somewhere I think must have been Fountain Park.

Off to check out the rest. Me and ds have done Obscura but DH hasn't so that's a maybe for a late slot!

Lane 7 allows kids in till quite late, can do dinner next door at Bonnie & Wild. Some of the escape rooms open till 9pm. Takeaway Ice cream or hot chocolate from Alandas then a walk around Old Town, it’s light till late.

Highly recommend camera obscure, it's great fun and fills a couple of hours minimum.

AliBaliBee1234 · 23/04/2025 19:53

I second Fountain Park. A 13 year old will love it!

PurpleThistle7 · 23/04/2025 20:33

Haute dolci for dessert and then some games at lane 7 - we like the darts there but they have a bunch of options.

NorthernGirlie · 25/04/2025 14:07

Thanks everyone - we've had a great time! Did Camera Obscura in the morning, pottered about and squeezed lots of things in, had dinner then went back to Obscura to see the bits we'd missed as the ticket lasts all day!
