Be in the video, not always filming the video!

I was thrilled to find an old home video in my loft which I have had converted to a USB. Whilst it’s been lovely to see old footage of my now 25 year old as a baby, it has left me so sad that I am not in any of the footage apart from a few seconds of his christening. Even his first birthday it is me filming whilst my mum is holding him ‘ blowing’ his candles out. My husband, parents, in laws , grandparents all feature but all I am is a voice. It’s left me feeling rather sad. So Mums, make sure that you get in on the action and let someone else film.

It's probably less of an issue these days now that pretty much everyone has a smart phone and seems to be constantly filming and taking pictures than it was 25 years ago when you would be relying on one camcorder.

I agree. As a young woman it is easy to get into the mindset that you don't look good enough for photos or video today. Perhaps your hair isn't perfect or you have no make-up on. When you are older, you look back and think how little that matters.

In my experience, it was almost always men who did the filming and rarely appeared in the footage, since cameras and camcorders were heavy and/or complicated to operate. It’s only in the last 20 years or so that this has changed.

Hopefully but make sure you are in the film as well.
