We are meeting friends half way soon - half way would be Oxford itself as the crow flies but we want to avoid city traffic. We will have kids and dogs with us - does anyone know of anywhere west of Oxford (but not as far as Cheltenham!) where there is a nice obvious walk/ country park/ woods and a decent pub for lunch? I don’t know the area at all!
Thank you 🙏🏼

So in-between Oxford and Cheltenham? You could go to Witney and kids could play in the Leys (splash park and play park) and go for a wander and choose from any of the pubs in town.

If you'd like a proper country walk, you could go to Minster Lovell and look around the ruins/Dovecote before having some food at the Old Swan.

Bibury is lovely for a walk and some gorgeous pubs but often busy.

Lechlade you could go and walk down bh the river and then have some food at The Trout or The New Inn.

Fairford has some beautiful walks and some pubs with good food.

Bourton on the water perhaps?

We have met friends at Godstow/Port Meadow before, it’s not west, more north but you wouldn’t have to go through the city centre. It’s a massive meadow with stream running through it and the dogs had a fab time. There’s a pub called the Trout inn which is a short walk away. You could park at the pub or there’s a car park at Port meadow north. Sorry if the details are a bit sketchy but it was a few years ago!

OX2 8PU is the car park we parked in…there’s also another pub nearby called The Wolvercote if you wanted to check reviews.
