Readmitted hospital / tell me your favourite something

Was discharged earlier today after surgery. Have had a complication since and have been readmitted, fortunately quickly and without faff. Bored and uncomfortable. Tell me about your favourite anything! Would love a distraction.

Gareth Malone getting eight people together in Cardiff who had never sung anything, and a few weeks later they performed Handel's Messiah, with orchestra and huge professional choir. Saw it over Easter, which was perfect - gorgeous music and the eight amateurs were lovely, a fantastic achievement.
I hope you have music with you OP, and are feeling OK. Also hoping you get some sleep. Am just off to try again myself - got up at 1am as couldn't sleep. 🌸

One of my favourite stories of my son Wilf who is deaf and autistic. He was about 12 then.
After waiting with his social services Mum for an hour to.see.the paediatrician I decided to take Wilf shopping on my own .
We went in the Heart Foundation charity shop. I saw a top I liked and went in the.changing room.
As I came out with the top on I saw Wilf quickly put his hand behind his back..
"Show me your hand!"
" No"
"Show me your hand now!"
"No"
"SHOW ME YOUR HAND NOWWWW!"
The hand slowly appeared to show an enormous plastic 1970s type retro ring.wedged on Wilfs. finger.
I had complete hab dabs trying to get the ring off. A well meaning shop lady suggested A and E.. She was told very firmly.that we had seen enough of the hospital today thankyou. Another lady came out with some hand cream which she slathered all over the finger. She pulled and the ring shot off under a rack of clothes. Wilf was told in no uncertain terms to.find and return the ring. I got changed paid for the top and dragged him out.
Not surprisingly they remembered us the next time we went in the ahop!! 🤣 🤣

Two horses in the field beyond my garden. They have such a lovely bond, often just standing together waiting to be fed. Monday morning one of them lay down on the ground (never seen them do that before) but apparently they do it to get deeper sleep than when they sleep standing up. A few minutes later the other was lying down too next to the first one. They looked so companionable sleeping together. An hour or two later they were up on their feet, grazing as usual. They get on so well, I often think they could teach humans a thing or two! Goodnight OP.

I like walking around cemeteries. One of my favourite cemeteries is Fiume Road Graveyard in Budapest, Hungary.

Many famous people are buried there, some in very elaborate graves. During the Communist era the government wanted to build over it but thankfully it was saved.

Another of my favourites is Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park which is now a nature reserve. It's one of 7 famous Victorian cemeteries in London and has a large circular path where the horse and carriage carrying the coffin would turn.

It's full of wonderful statues and gravestones and has ancient trees and ivy creating a canopy. It's renowned for nature and you often see volunteers working to preserve the graves and tend to the trees.

My current favourite thing is my horse. I’ve never had one before! We were both a bag of nerves when she came to me five months ago, and to be honest I thought I’d made a mistake. She was bronky and reared up at me and I was advised to send her back.

But I loved her, so we persevered. It turns out, she was pregnant! So now, I have a huge best friend who comes running to the gate when she sees me, loves cuddles and scratches, kicks the fence when I’m too slow getting her tea ready, adores satsumas and is ready to drop a foal any time in the next few weeks!

I’ve sat on her twice Grin

@BlueEyedBogWitch I think we’re going to have to have a whole thread on this! What a lovely story 💕

My h persuaded me to buy a house with a huge garden. I didn't want to as I'm no gardener and had no interest or skills. As with so many things we did what he wanted and he was all talk, lost interest and the garden was left unattended, got overgrown and was unusable and overwhelming. Dh wouldn't allow me to do anything as he told me i would ruin it' and would dig out something important and valuable.

Eventually i decided i didn't want to live like this, with him controlling me, with a garden i couldn't use and feeling overwhelmed. And bit by bit i have trimmed things back, created a vegetable patch, planted fruit bushes, dug a pond that has frogs, toads and lots of plants, built a deck to sit on and eat my dinner grown wildflowers, bulbs, fruit vegetables and all sorts. I've turned the fruit into crumble and pies. I've also rescued a little dog who has been by my side digging and weeding. I've created something lovely out of something impossible and I love being there. I'm so proud of myself and i never thought i was capable of such a thing. I let h tell me i couldn't do it for years but i can. I'm never going to let myself be told i can't do something again.

That’s sounds lovely- and so do you. I’m sure your new garden would have room for a patio… brookside style one… for your not so “D” H to end up under. He sounds horrible!!

This is lovely. Please tell me your next garden project is going to be a patio.

Thanks, still here. Going to be off work for a couple of months now. Tell us more about your garden :)

Sorry to hear that. That's rubbish. Well the garden needs some weeding but I've just put some petunias in pots and the little dog is doing her best to steal the empty flower pots.

Do you have a release date?

GreenCandleWax · 23/04/2025 20:09

Had a deer in my garden at 6.30am. A roe deer. It came right up to the paved area outside the back door, and ate one of my succulent plants - really spiky you would think. I have never been so close to a wild animal before - looking at it through the kitchen window so maybe 6 feet away. It was lovely, so graceful and delicate in its movements. It then moved off to eat some low hanging leaves on the apple tree.
Luckily the flowers were out of reach!
How are you OP? Still in hospital? Hope you are getting better.🌷

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/04/2025 20:23

My desk at work looks out onto a heavily wooded area and right now it's every shade of green as the leaves are coming out. Likewise the wooded lane on my walk to work. I feel like it's cleansing my soul and sets me up for the day.

Also our vivid pink cherry tree (planted in memory of lovely FIL) is in full bloom. It's my favourite time of year I think.

There's a heron that every morning just after 7.30am goes to visit my neighbour's pond.

It's all covered with a beautiful metal decoy heron supposedly to deter any herons so the heron can't get the fish.

Instead every morning the heron gives the decoy heron a kiss on its beak, then flies off.

It makes me smile every morning.

IneedhandcreamandaNC · 23/04/2025 20:37

Well, I got discharged but have started having diarrhoea! Gah. It was meant to be a simple day surgery.

One of my favourite things in the world is any time we get to spend with an old school friend that I reconnected with about a decade ago and his gorgeous fiancée. We live far apart and don’t speak very regularly but catch up in person anytime we’re near each other (most recently when we were both ‘home’ for Christmas). I just absolutely adore them both in a way I can’t even really explain since we’re not in each other’s lives day to day. DH gets on with them just as well and all we do when we’re together is laugh and laugh. I absolutely cannot wait for their wedding.

My beloved cat, Billy my feline angel, big white whiskers and love heart under his chin, mainly black.
Needed teeth out last year, he was so cuddly afterwards as if to thank me, no outward symptoms.
Adopted at 7, now nearly 10, brother given away to Facebook, then got puppy, she couldn’t afford to keep him, found foster life traumatic.
Didn’t eat, use litter tray or cuddle for 5 days, within 3 hrs of being here, did those 3 things.
Taken a long time to get settled been here just over 2 years

I was coming on here to say my favourite sandwich is cheese and onion but reading these heartwarming stories I think I've misunderstood the brief...... 🤣

You can tell us about cheese and onion sandwiches! What takes it to the next level or is simplicity key when making one?
