Can under 18s go travelling these days?

DN wants to go away with friends this summer but they won't start turning 18 until September. Does that mean they can't go? They don't seem to be able to book flights and even in UK accomodation (even YHA?) want confirmation that they're over 18yo

Do 16/17yos not go away unaccompanied anymore?

Youth hostel is fine for over 16. Ds stayed in them often as hotels would not take him. Although if not with friends he would book a private room. They can also book easyJet flights, ds and a friend flew to Portugal at 17 and stayed in hostels there. He never did a package holiday under 18 so that may not be possible.

It probably depends where they want to go. They might be limited to hostels, but this might be fine? Don’t think you can book air b&bs under eighteen. Flights shouldn’t be an issue.

My 17yo has booked flights for himself, but he can’t book hotels until he’s 18.

I'm pretty sure UK YHAs will accept guests from age 16 (though they won't be allowed to share a dorm with strangers before age 18).
