Anyone else loathe the derogatory use of women's names?

ilovemyhamster · 18/04/2025 11:20

Just that really. I absolutely loathe the use of phrases like Debbie Downer, being a Karen and I've seen one today calling someone a Petty Patty. I find it rude and frankly offensive and odd that women themselves use phrases like this 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, completely agree with you.

SoManyTshirts · 18/04/2025 11:22

There’s no good reason to use phrases like this. It’s playground mentality.

EmpressaurusKitty · 18/04/2025 11:23

Me too. Also Nervous Nelly. Just annoying & always make me judge the poster.

gattocattivo · 18/04/2025 11:25

Agree

Needmorelego · 18/04/2025 11:26

There's male names that get used as insults too.

HousedInMySoul · 18/04/2025 11:27

It sounds like the threads are being posted by an extra-misogynist Ned Flanders

True but that's not the subject here!

ilovesooty · 18/04/2025 13:34

Agreed. Childish and unpleasant.

motheroreily · 18/04/2025 13:36

I really don't like it. It's misogynistic

TheTecknician · 18/04/2025 14:30

My mum used to call cowards 'Windy Wendy'.

Raquelos · 18/04/2025 14:32

How do we feel about having a Tommy Tank? (The phrase, not the act itself!)

NameChangedOfc · 18/04/2025 14:43

I find it mysogynistic. And it makes me biased against the person using it, too.

Sux2buthen · 18/04/2025 14:55

Couldn’t care less

ajandjjmum · 18/04/2025 18:22

Just rude!

BanjoKnickers · 18/04/2025 18:28

You sound like a proper Nobby NoMates

TheHorrorsPersist · 18/04/2025 18:32

Hags by Victoria Smith should be required reading for anyone who uses the insult “Karen” 🙄

NotDarkGothicMama · 18/04/2025 18:35

I agree and feel sorry for women whose names get turned into pathetic insults.

CagneyNYPD1 · 18/04/2025 19:25

I agree with you. Also “Rachel from Accounts” really bothers me…it’s dripping in misogyny.

Absolutely. It’s a brilliant book and covers this topic well

Thanks for this recommendation. I'm going to buy it 😊

No...I just thought this thread was a bit odd.
Insulating people, being rude or using a name as a stereotype is bad whether it's female or male.
Or funny if it's used in a comedy way 😂

Needmorelego · 19/04/2025 12:17

@ilovemyhamster "Debbie Downer" is a character from Saturday Night Live - created and performed by a female.

RainySummer01 · 19/04/2025 12:20

Yes agree. Also Moody Margaret.

But technically that's a verb rather than an noun adjective combo 😂
