Overpaid tax - Can I claim before P800

I changed my employer in September 2024 and I was placed on the incorrect tax code. A faff to get hold of HMRC, is there any way I can claim this back before the P800 comes through?

thanks

Ooh my DH had the same thing and I was wondering the same as you, so lurking for the answer!

You can contact HMRC and ask but it can take time for end of year figures to be submitted and the system becoming 'ripe' if you like for a P800 to be produced. It's not just P60 end of year figures getting uploaded by employers but bank and building society interest, benefits in kind etc. P800s get produced by the system later on after it's assumed everything would be ready so it's certainly worth asking before then. What's irritating to the tax helpline is loads of calls bang on 6th April every year with people and usually the same people asking if they are due a repayment. Give it a bit of time for stuff to get through.
