Do you know where this photograph was taken (possibly Blackpool)?

I'm just trying to narrow down where this picture was taken. It's my grandparents on honeymoon in 1944 and my Grandma always said they went to Blackpool.

Does anybody recognise the building in the background? I'm just curious as to where they are in this photo. I look at it daily as it's my lock screen!

Thank you. She was a wonderful woman and died just before the pandemic, aged 94. She always took pride in her appearance, right until the very end. I miss her hugely.

Is it the start of the pier perhaps?

Crazymadchickenlady · 16/04/2025 11:34

Looks like the North pier to me

I live in Blackpool, and I think that's North Pier based on the design....x

Sorry no idea...but what a great photo...I love the dress and would happily wear that today!

Judd · 16/04/2025 11:48

You could post it on a History of Blackpool FB group for their thoughts x

It does look like the old photos of the North Pier. I did look on Google maps but it all looks so different now.

Part of me would like to go and see for myself. The other part of me has read Bill Bryson's descriptions of Blackpool and wouldn't dream of it!

I know the few days they had there after their wedding were pretty precious to them given that the war was still ongoing.

Honestly, I would go. It's lovely on a sunny day. Lots of the landmarks are still there.

sashh · 16/04/2025 12:16

I was going to say one of the piers.

If you or your DC are on Reddit there are some absolute wizards on there at this kind of thing

Google can bring up old pictures. I’m on a Facebook group where people post pictures of the city where I live from various times.
