How to deal with this (live) chicken?!

Yokohama chicken - I think - has apparently taken up residence in our garden. I’ve posted online etc, nobody claiming it(!)

I’m not particularly after owning a chicken but also don’t want it to come to harm. Will it cope
if I leave it to its own devices? Is it likely to be a problem? We have a dog and two toddlers, it scuttles off slowly into bushes but otherwise doesn’t seem much bothered by them.

Garden’s already regularly visited by rabbits, pheasants and, once before we had the fence finished, a deer….

Are you sure it's a Yokohama? They are not a commonly kept breed, so if someone was missing one, they'd be on the lookout. Can you post a pic? Is it male or female? As long as it roosts in the trees, it may survive, but otherwise it is at risk from fox attack.

It will almost certainly be caught by a fox. Can you catch it and see if anyone from eg Facebook chicken page or the chicken forum on here can take it?
It's likely a male that someone has dumped 😢

If you’re able to pick it up and put it in a pet carrier or cardboard box, possibly take it to a local vet? They may know local clients with hens who may have lost it or be able to take it in.

It’s likely to get eaten by a fox or a dog if it’s out and about without a safe place to go.

Very dramatic tail feathers, Yokohama poultry. Probably a show bird.

either your dog or a fox will eventually get to it

Try and catch it, take it to an animal shelter. There’s no way it’ll survive otherwise

Facebook all the way. Join if you have to. Find your local page(s) and post pictures of it. If it's actually a Yokohama, they cost money and someone will definitely be looking for it. Check the Lost posts. If the owner doesn't come forward, someone else probably will. Do you have an animal sanctuary near you? Where I used to live, we had a brilliant farm animal sanctuary. They never turned anything away.
