I have one DC who is in school and we plan to have a couple more.

DP says he would like this, but seems to have an absolutely absurd figure in his head of what he would like to earn before I could stay at home.

My income now is relatively low.

Of course it depends on lifestyle, mortgage etc. But would be nice for some kind of idea.

I work full time, DH doesn’t work. I earn 37k in London. No childcare costs.

Not a clue. He runs his own business so doesn't have a set salary.

I know my friends DH was on 65k PA but that was a couple of years ago and we live in quite a cheap part of the country. They are getting divorced and her being a SAHP has not assisted if I’m honest with how stuff has panned out.

I had a PT job for a few years when children were small, that seemed the best of both worlds mine was 8 till 1pm five days a week. DH did school drop off and I did pick ups. He was on 60k and I was on 22k.

We're in the Midlands and I was a SAHM about 6 years ago; DH earned just over £50k. It actually didn't work for us primarily due to mortgage and DH commuting costs. We kept a very strict budget and DH felt he was working hard but we couldn't afford treats or holidays.

Now we both work with a combined income of £80k.

Main earner is £175k, big mortage, big appetites and big travel bugs. Sahm for 6 years, now working part time.

I was, for around 10 years, OH was earning £98k at the start rising to £160k.

You say DP. Do not do this without the protection of marriage.

£173k plus bonus which this year was £50k. In London so high housing costs 2 kids with no.3 on the way. When I worked I was on £80k.

It doesn't matter what anyone makes. It matters if your family can afford it, make a budget.

£34k. DP is SAHP. Two DC, Southwest, all the usual expenses. Pretty damn frugal.

No, not particularly. We don’t have a car, we have one foreign holiday a year. Mortgage is paid off.

I’ve been a SAHM for 7 years. When we had our first, DH was on about £75k-£80k per year but he’s now on £120k. Average-high mortgage and 2 cars. We’re comfortable and don’t worry about money that often but we’d be much better off if we weren’t constantly spending on unimportant things.

I'm a sahm. DH earns £400k+ depending on bonus. Live in London, 3 dcs (2 in private school, 1 over school age). High mortgage. Lots of savings, significant investment income, 2+ overseas holidays a year. Zero commuting costs as we live very centrally.

I did it when dh was at 70k, now dh took a pay cut and I work part time. Better for us all!
