What’s this orangey/brown staining on hand

Woke up and noticed this staining on only on my right hand. Not itchy or sore. Areas feel less dryer than rest of palm.

Yesterday, I cleaned out the washing machine drawer.

Then for evening meal I had mushrooms, pepper, courgette and pasatta with roasted veg couscous. With a side salad

Not dyed hair in 10 years.

Definitely looks like dye doesn’t it? The pattern looks like you held onto something - a handrail?

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/04/2025 07:38

I agree. Looks like you've maybe put your hand on a fence that's been recently creosoted.

Looks like fake tan.

Rusty stain from a saucepan handle or something?

I agree it looks like fake tan though!

This happens now and again. I think it's come up before on MN too. Have you been chopping peppers? I have a feeling it's a food thing.

Yes I did chop up two snacking peppers.

Pretty sure it's this. It'll wear off.

My husband woke up one morning recently with similar staining on his hand! It wouldn't wash off, so couldn't have been blood. I hadn't dyed my hair in ages so it can't have been that either. We never worked out what it was, took days to disappear.
Watching with interest!

Lovelysummerdays · 10/04/2025 07:56

I had this once, never figured out what it was. Wouldn’t wash off so made a scrub, sugar and washing up liquid which exfoliated off the worst of it.

Skandar · 10/04/2025 07:59

I think it's from vegetables as well. I know parsnips do this, possibly courgettes might too?
