Does deep heat treat muscle injuries or just help symptoms

I have a small hamstring tear. Not so bad that I've stopped running (obviously 🤣 we don't do that) but enough that I was in a lot of discomfort after running last night.

I've always been a bit skeptical about things that go on the skin, but there was.some in the house and I was really uncomfortable so I tried it, and this morning the leg feels better than it has in weeks.

But I thought it was pain relief rather than treatment?

Kind of both. The heat relaxes the muscle so can help with over tight muscles that are painful. Not sure about a tear, not sure how that even happens
