Nice restaurants near South Bank

I'm graduating from a MSc from UCL in May, the ceremony is on in the Royal Festival Hall. I'm looking for restaurant suggestions in that area for myself, DH and our 3 year old DS. It needs to be nice enough for a celebration so I can wear my fancy graduation dress, but suitable for kids too. FWIW, my son is extremely well behaved in restaurants and a good eater. Any suggestions?

Congratulations on the MSC!
Brasserie Blanc is nice and very close - not very fancy but you won’t look out of place. Skylon, actually in the Festival Hall, used to be great but was very disappointing last time I went.

Ping Pong is fabulous and feels quite special.

Take the tube two stops to London Bridge and try Roast at Borough Market? (Or any of the other decent restaurants there - Oma is meant to be fab and having eaten at their little sister restaurant I would love to try it)

I went to Azzuro this weekend while travelling. Italian under the railway arches of Waterloo.

Oxo tower - ask for a table by the windows and you’ll have a fantastic view

There is a tapas bar in the RFH undercroft, La Gamba. I've had some good meals there and it is smarter than the others in that location.

The Swan is a gastro pub along by the Globe and has a lovely view out over St Paul's.

Oxo tower v. disappointing last time I went.

I've heard good things about Tate Modern restaurant recently.

Further along at Borough Lupin is lovely and scene of many birthday meals, and I've heard really good things about Camille and Cafe Francois but haven't been to either. I also had a great meal in barrafina recently and there is also the ubiquitous Hawksmoor if you want steak. Applebees is also nice if you want fish.

If more down to earth Tapas is your style Mason Don Fellipe on The Cut, or Las Gambas mentioned upthread might tick your boxes.

4 Fratelli Caprini at 77 Waterloo Road is a lovely long established family run restaurant, serving Italian classics. It's a very short walk from the Festival Hall.
