Years-old ear piercing hole getting sore - what to do?!

I haven't worn my earrings much in the last few years. Every time I go to put them in the left one won't go in easily and I end up wriggling it until it pushes through the back. Ouch! It always feels like the hole has partially closed since the last time. Today I took out the earring at the end of the day and made it bleed! I've TCPed will leave it alone tomorrow. Any advice on how to care for it and get it used to regularly taking an earring again without all this hassle? Weirdly the right one is always completely fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stop taking them in and out! And of course if you rarely wear them in years it will heal over.

put in a pair of studs you like and leave in day and night for a few months. Treat the ear that’s sore like a new piercing and twist and clean the stud daily

What sort of earrings?
Maybe try titanium or stainless steel
And spray them twice a day with neilmed spray if you have put the new earring in

And leave the earring in if you want to keep the holes open. I wear labrets and just leave them in all the time

Don't twist a healing piercing. Clean with saline twice a day and otherwise leave them alone

Go to a professional piercing studio and get them to have a look at it - in the meantime, don't wear any earrings and stop fiddling with it.

Agree with pp you need to put earrings in and just leave them there! Make sure they are decent metal like gold/titanium or surgical steel.

I recently started wearing earrings after a break of about 10 years. One hole was a bit closed and was sore initially - I put in a pair of white gold studs and just left them in all the time. It settled after about 2 weeks and I've had no problems taking them out since.

Don’t twist a new piercing OP (or an old one that’s healed and needs treating as a new piercing).

Put a clean pair of studs in and leave them in and clean daily

Treat it like a fresh piercing now. Leave the earring in. Hopefully it's titanium, if not the metal itself may be the irritant. Do you know what it's made of?

Do not twist and pull it. Don't touch it. Use Neilmed saline spray twice a day and let the shower water run over it if you shower. But mostly just don't touch it. The golden rule for fresh or irritated piercings is "LITHA" = Leave It The Hell Alone :)
