Big bow headbands on baby girls

hostleg · 05/04/2025 16:12

They are hideous and dangerous as a few babies have died as the band slipped down their face, covering up their nose and/or mouth.

I bet majority of girls that wore these look back at photos of them as a baby would cringe and think "what were you thinking"

I’m afraid my first thought on seeing them is always strangulation hazard.

Berlinlover · 05/04/2025 16:14

I agree, they are absolutely hideous.

Chellybelle · 05/04/2025 16:14

I've not seen a baby in one for ages. I don't think they're in style anymore. I never put them on any of mine but if people want to put them on their babies despite the risks, they will. No point getting worked up over it.

SocksShmocks · 05/04/2025 16:15

I personally think they’re ugly and probably uncomfortable for the baby especially when they have a flower decoration or something. I assume it’s born of a fear someone might think your bald baby girl is a boy - the horror! I hadn’t heard they were dangerous so that’s obviously more concerning.

StumbleInTheDebris · 05/04/2025 16:16

It has no benefit to the baby and I'd be worried about them getting caught or being uncomfortable. It does seem a bit like the baby is being used as a prop (but happy to be corrected if it does benefit the baby in some way!)

Gretnaglebe · 05/04/2025 16:18

Horrible. See also pierced ears. And yes I know cultural reasons, but still bloody awful

blacksax · 05/04/2025 16:34

In the nicest possible way... they look fucking ridiculous.

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/04/2025 16:36

I’ve seen several over the past few days.

Most small children when able remove anything on their heads so I’m sure the baby is uncomfortable.

PeopleTalkingWithoutSpeaking · 05/04/2025 16:37

They are not my style but that's ok, others like them that's ok too. That said, surely they should only be for limited and supervised moments - I can't get over how hazardous they are.

SmoothEncounter · 05/04/2025 16:37

I’ve only ever seen them on babies for their newborn photos, never seen them out and about in “real life”. I would assume parents would know to remove them before putting babies down for naps surely?

SedumRoof · 05/04/2025 16:38

You might as well make your baby wear a little babygro that says MY MOTHER IS AFRAID YOU’LL THINK I’M A BOY

LadyWiddiothethird · 05/04/2025 16:40

Loads of baby outfits in Sainsbury’s today with a matching headband, also noticed it pushed the price up.They look ridiculous on babies.

ReesesCupcake · 05/04/2025 16:41

Agree. Very tacky looking too.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/04/2025 16:42

I see them IRL now and again. My first thought is always, that’s tacky AF!

TakesallSortsofPotatoes · 05/04/2025 16:44

Hate those, tiny babies should only wear a little hat. I always thought those huge bow things were for photo shoots people have, but then are taken off afterwards. Now I see this isn't always the case!

Comedycook · 05/04/2025 16:45

Not a fan

Planesmistakenforstars · 05/04/2025 16:45

I mostly try hard to be non judgemental about thing like this, but they are tacky as fuck and nothing screams dribbling goon quite like a parent who puts one on their daughter.

TakesallSortsofPotatoes · 05/04/2025 16:48

This exactly. I mean there is an option for a little pink soft cotton hat, my friend had a white hat with tiny rosebuds on, it was gorgeous! Personally I wouldn't need the world to know whether my baby was a boy or a girl.

Moonsonetime · 05/04/2025 17:00

I saw one of a cockapoodle dog yesterday if that counts. It looked ridiculous!

Vodkamartini3olives · 05/04/2025 17:00

Such strong reactions to a baby & a bit of fabric. I think they look kinda cute. What's the stats on babies killed by headband?. I googled it but can't find anything.

LeaveALittleNote · 05/04/2025 17:08

I can’t stand them either. Each to their own and all that, but they look horrible and potentially dangerous.

thinktwice36 · 05/04/2025 17:10

They look horrific. So naff.

blacksax · 05/04/2025 17:14

If it is something Grayson Perry would wear, it will look silly on a baby girl's head.
