School trip shortly - has EHIC but not physical card

Argh, messed up in that I gave DCs’ Dad their passports and EHICs when they went on a ski trip with him in December. Remembered to get passports back but forgot the EHICs. Drop off for school trip for DS2 in Italy is now in 3 hours and DCs’ Dad is away on trip with wife and two kids and not due back till Sunday.

I do have a photo of the EHIC which the school rightly asked for. So, the school has a copy too. But the school trip parent pack is saying he needs to bring the physical card. Is that needed? Can anyone confirm before I lose my mind? I actually have their Dad’s house keys and already gone to have a look but nothing and they are in a country 3 hours ahead so fast asleep! Argh! Help!

I had to use this abroad for a dc once, I didn't have the card with us when the accident happened, and they just asked me to email them a photo of it.
do you think the school are going to ask to see it before they leave?

Thanks! That’s reassuring to know. I think they will check (DS1 was on the same trip two years ago… and he said they checked something, not sure if it was passport or EHIC) but it’s not as if we don’t have it, I just can’t believe it slipped my mind. The worst thing is I clearly remembered handing both passports and EHICS to their Dad. And DS1’s EHIC is not with me either so I know it’s with their Dad. I might try calling to see if he wakes? 😬
