Gynae ultrasound question

I have a TVUS booked tomorrow for unexplained bleeding. The problem is that the bleeding is still going on- is it ok to attend like this or should I postpone the appointment? (I'd rather not postpone as it's obviously important to get things checked.) Just don't want to horrify the poor sonographer.

I'd ring them today and check.

Hi, I had one a few months ago and the information leaflet that was sent with the appointment letter stated that I should still attend even if I had my period/was bleeding. Apparently vaginal bleeding doesn't affect the Sonographers ability to check what they need to (although you will need to remove a tampon if you're using one). You could always phone the department if you wanted extra reassurance.
Good luck!

I also had this and the radiographer said more often than not they are undertaking these tv scans with bleeding - that's why they've been requested. Absolutely normal for them. Hope all is well.

They do internal ultrasounds when women have their periods in fertility clinics all the time. It won't affect any of the results.

they wouldn't have referred you for a scan for bleeding if they couldn't do the scan because you were bleeding. Normal physiology shouldn't worry the scanner one bit. Best to not be using a tampon and probably worth having some spare san pro with you.
