iPhone deciding what calls I receive I despair

It’s always a very important hospital call (I’m having treatment) which is with held. I’ve checked the silence button, volume and withheld toddle. Is that supposed to be on grey or green? To me green would mean not letting withheld through but I’m happy to be corrected.

literally I was on top of my phone yesterday and she left too messages it never rang but she said straight to answer machine.

i get withheld calls all the time from X-ray, the ward etc! So it’s not like they are blocked. Can anyone shed some light

Make sure Silence unknown calls is turned off in settings

FetidMoppet · 01/04/2025 10:19

It'll be your focus settings, almost certainly. Certain modes seem to automatically withhold any calls from unknown numbers.
you can pulldown from the top and click on Focus and it'll show you what focus mode you are in and which ones you have. I have set up my own which allows everything through.

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 12:43

thanks for that but I don’t understand do you allow everything through on each section like work etc? I think I will have to go into the shop

Definitely check this! I almost went insane last year as a certain number kept ringing me about an important medical issue but all I got was a load of "missed call" notifications even though I had the phone in my hand!

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 13:58

But what is off? Is it grey or the toggle to make it green? Besides while I’ve been sat here I’ve had an unknown call from the hospital re an assessment so how come some come through and others don’t?

Off is grey. On is green

When you say click on focus, what does the focus icon look like? Do you mean pull down to get that menu

mindutopia · 01/04/2025 14:29

Do you actually have signal? It’s possible you’re simply missing calls because you’re in a black area for signal, even if it says 4G or 5G.

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 14:49

Perfect signal this is what happens when I find focus I’ve just allowed it for all

The new focus settings are a nightmare for calls, both DH and I have experienced this. I’ve set up a focus called “calls” which allows everything and I have that as my standard focus setting.

Supersimkin7 · 01/04/2025 16:27

Both my parents are in intensive care.

Apple turned calls off.

This is awful.

Supersimkin7 · 01/04/2025 16:28

Is there any way to delete all
the focus settings? It keeps putting itself on sleep or dnd.

Noperope · 01/04/2025 16:31

It may be your network op. I was with Sky and had this problem. Hospital, school, council, all the important calls blocked! After numerous calls to Sky I finally got a man that told me it's a known problem and there is no fix other than to change networks. I changed to EE and no problems since. I tried literally everything before that, all the fixes, factory restart, different handset but nothing worked.

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 16:38

Now since I’ve messed around it’s sent a message saying this person called but we suspect spam. It was my cancer nurse and that phone was right in my hand

I constantly have this problem too. No idea how to solve it but it definitely isn’t you, it’s Apple.

FetidMoppet · 01/04/2025 16:53

Yes pull down to get the menu page, then click on Focus (or it might say, Personal, Work etc) then that shows you all the Focus modes on your phone.
click on the three dots next to any of them then settings. That will show you what is currently set up. I couldn't be bothered going through all of them so I set up my own which allows everything through. You can set it to turn on/off on a schedule if you want to but I just turn mine on manually if I'm expecting a call which will be a withheld number (usually the GP).

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 18:01

I justvwent through them and deleted each one

Have you checked the silence unknown callers bit? I know others have mentioned this but can’t see if you checked, apologies.

Settings - apps - phone and it should say off, or be grey.

EmeraldRoulette · 01/04/2025 18:36

FFS Iphone used to be known for ease of use

it's become ridiculous now

I avoid running updates (I don't bank on my phone) because it usually screws something up but this one is new to me

hope you are sorted @EachandEveryone

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2025 18:47

Silence unknown callers is not on besides, I get loads of other hospital departments calling me without a problem
