No smell from scented candle

I got a scented candle from a reputable shop yesterday ( think colour) Lit it today and it has been burning for a few hours and there is a pool of melted wax round the wick but no discernible smell at all. I mean if I put my nose near the candle wick I can smell the fragrance. DH cannot smell anything either.

it was in the sale but still fairly pricey and I am inclined to back it back or would they laugh at me? First world problem I know!

Have you got Covid?

White Company I presume. I have the same problem with one from there. Was £40 in the sale so expect better.
So many candles are not worth the money now. Yankee are pushing out paraffin wax rubbish that tunnels and smells of nothing.

Why can’t you say the name of the shop? I’d just return it.

It’s the white company. I’d return it too.

White Company candles aren't great. My DM is a connoisseur of all things candle and reed diffuser related and she doesn't rate them at all.

Mindymomo · 31/03/2025 07:32

Take it back, they’ve changed suppliers for their candles, the old supplier was way better, but I’m biased as relative works for previous supplier.

rubyslippers · 31/03/2025 07:33

Take it back
bath and body works three wick candles and diptyque smell good when lit

RoundRedRobin · 31/03/2025 07:41

I would presume you had Covid if it’s a reputable company.

hasn't there been a chart showing a direct link between high Covid cases and candle smell complaints?

The shop hasn’t been named so how do you know it’s changed suppliers?

My first thought was Molton Brown

I love St Eval and at least half the price of white company!

DappledThings · 31/03/2025 08:11

I've never been able to smell anything from a scented candle in my life. I've been convinced for years nobody can and doesn't want to admit it!

JitterbugFairy · 31/03/2025 08:14

I like the white company for their diffuser oils but their candles are shite, apart from the Winter tea lights.

Finding most are rubbish now, including expensive perfumes. No lasting power. I'm looking at you Jo Malone 😔

Redfox · 31/03/2025 08:19

It is the White Company. No I don’t have Covid. Yes think I will try and get over my embarrassment and take it back. Where it has been lit there is a perfect circle of melted wax round the wick - just no smell!

Yes, never thought of that one, although OP has said it’s White Company.

Redfox · 31/03/2025 16:38

I returned candle with no issue. Sticking with diffusers from now on.

I had a WC diffuser and it was rubbish.

Nutmuncher · 31/03/2025 16:50

Diptyque OR Cire Trudon all day long.

Anything else simply is not even remotely close.

Westfacing · 31/03/2025 16:59

Without reading any replies I was about to jump in and complain about the White Company candle that my sister bought me for Xmas - but I see that they are indeed the culprit!

Not only is there no fragrance it also hasn't burned well - I followed the instructions about the wick and how long to burn for etc but the pesky thing hasn't burned evenly and and is now a hollow wall.

From the website I guess it was about £45 and a total waste of money.

Shetlands · 31/03/2025 17:04

Cheap and cheerful diffuser - smells gorgeous (Jo Malone dupe).

I have the Aldi diffuser, it’s in a small bathroom and there’s no smell whatsoever ! I’m sure last time I bought one it was better, not great but better.
