Husband works every Saturday

CosyNavyLeader · 29/03/2025 19:13

Does anyone else have a husband (or just a partner in general) who works every single Saturday?

He gets home between 5-7pm

I don't really know what the point of this post is, I just feel very alone sometimes.

I have an 8 year old to entertain and I just feel very lonely sometimes on Saturdays when I see other families out and about.

It just totally ruins our weekend basically.

I know I should be grateful he has a job. But it really gets me down sometimes.

Mine does too! He's self employed and a total grafter who does it all for me and our girls. I do feel it but we have been together a long time and its just the way it is, we try to get away for the odd weekend when we can. Lots of my friends husbands have “normal” Mon-Fri 9-5 jobs but spend Saturdays on the golf course or in pub which would royally piss me off! Solidarity it can be lonely sometimes x

nodtik · 29/03/2025 19:23

Mine does too, plus one in three Sundays!

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/03/2025 19:29

Does he get a day off in the week?

Mine works every weekend! It can be really lonely. 1 year old keeps me busy but looking forward to when he can talk back 😂 it means we only need 3 days childcare during the week though & both work FT

Scrowy · 29/03/2025 19:30

Farmers - so it's Saturday and Sunday here. If we are lucky he takes Sunday afternoon off as long as it's not lambing/calving/silage time/clipping.

3 days off over May half term, 10am - 4pm off on Christmas day and an entire week in August where he spends the whole week worrying about being away from the farm.

Otherwise he is working every day every week.

Powderblue1 · 29/03/2025 20:12

Every other Saturday here, and lots of late nights too. It can get lonely but I suppose I’m used to it now. I try to see friends and family on those days instead

GivingUpFinally · 29/03/2025 20:15

I'm the one working every Saturday. It just means we nske the not of Sundays and other tines we have in the week for family time.

It pays the bills and reduces weekly childcare costs for us, it makes sense.

NewNameTime2025 · 29/03/2025 20:17

Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, often picking up overtime so it’s 12 noon -10pm or 11pm. And weekends are when everyone is free to do stuff/birthday parties/etc so it’s tough

JustAMum31 · 29/03/2025 20:17

Mine works at sea for 4 weeks at a time 😊 so away for 28 days. Then home for 28 days off - but I work 5 days per week including every Sunday. My days off are also split so we never have 2 days in a row off together unless I’m on annual leave - which we never are because I use my annual leave to cover childcare holidays that occur when DH is offshore 🫠

Plenty of families that don’t work “normal” 9-5s with weekends off 😊

LastRoIo · 29/03/2025 20:28

I work other every weekend, sometimes doing a night shift. I'm not sure I'd want to work every weekend.

Honeypickle · 29/03/2025 20:30

Yep. Monday to Saturday. And no wage (hospitality - our own place). Am a seething pit of resentment and see no way out.

Respectornot · 29/03/2025 20:32

Yes - farmer. Full day Sat, so that means about 9am - 10pm.
As little as he can get away with on Sun so approx 1 hour unless lambing.

AliBaliBee1234 · 29/03/2025 20:34

Mine does too! He's off during the week to cover childcare. Do you have a Sunday together?

CosyNavyLeader · 29/03/2025 20:41

Sorry, just to add- yes, he has Mondays off.

Mondays are so shit though aren't they!?

Sundays are spent down the park/beach/ and takeaway evening.

I love a Sunday roast but there's no way I'm staying in slaving over the oven making a roast.

Quite often do a mid week mini roast though!

Mine did for years.

okydokethen · 29/03/2025 22:18

Mine does - I’ve always loved it as my day with kids/seeing friends and doing what I please.

doitwithlove · 29/03/2025 22:34

Friday & Saturday nights, finishes at 10pm, home by 10.30 usually I’m in bed.

Scutterbug · 29/03/2025 22:39

Mine always has. He is a chef. And Xmas day, Boxing Day, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter…

RabbitsRock · 29/03/2025 23:13

DH is self employed & works every Saturday, although some weeks it’s only for a couple of hours. He used to work until 8 every weekday & 5 or 6 on Saturdays but now rarely finishes later than 5 every day. He never works Sundays.

iamnotalemon · 29/03/2025 23:16

Do you work? Could you take on more hours so he doesn’t have to work a Saturday?

iamsoshocked · 29/03/2025 23:20

Yup. DH works in theatre so is out every evening until 11:30/midnight 6 days a week.

faerietales · 30/03/2025 00:05

I used to be the one working all weekend - it was shit and we don’t even have children to consider. We now both work part-time - I do 30 hours a week and DH’s hours vary depending on how busy he is, but on average he does the same as I do, just spread differently.

Neither of us do weekends anymore!

WorthyOtter · 30/03/2025 00:07

Mine does! He has Sundays and Mondays off. Me and my son use Saturdays as a lazy day, then Sundays we'll go out as a family

Bjorkdidit · 30/03/2025 05:29

Can't you just go out with your DC? Get stuff done at home? Do things with DC like crafts, games, watch films, bake, or do your own hobby while DC does theirs?

Unless there's circumstances that you haven't mentioned it's only a problem if you let it be one. Your DC is at an age where they can entertain themselves, help you with chores etc so make the most of it.
