Would a child be able to carry this bag?

I was planning on getting this bag . For our holiday. We will all have a bag each. But now I'm wondering by the time I have added the clothes and bits would it be heavy for my younger children they are 8 and 9 but they are small for their age. I'm wondering if I should get them one with wheels rather than a back pack type?

For got to add the bag see below

Is there such a thing as both?

I mean like a rucksack with little wheels so they have the choice?

For an 8-year-old, it's generally recommended that they carry no more than 10% to 20% of their body weight in a backpack

So weigh a bag of what you will pack and calculate.

Or pay for one hold luggage at least

We are trying to avoid luggage check in.

I’d honestly expect to carry that for my 8 year old if it was actually full of holiday essentials. I expect them to carry a child sized backpack with their own water bottle, snacks, iPad, couple of toys and a jumper/jacket, but not what amounts to luggage.

Plus ergonomically those really boxy shaped backpacks that are basically a suitcase or briefcase with straps in the corners (as opposed to a proper walking rucksack) are really not comfortable, even for an adult.

I found one that has wheels so going to do that instead

If you will just put minimums of clothes in the kids packs and maybe wash while away.. but seems a lot to ask of child just to avoid any luggage check in. But you know your kids. And how far you have to walk in airports etc. You may end up carrying yours and kids s packs at times.

All school children use these in Spain. Absolute genius idea!

TartanMammy · 28/03/2025 23:02

When we travel with hand lugge only we tend to do 2 small wheelie cases and 2 backpacks. That way me and DH can carry it all - wheeling one and one on our back. The children can help but if they get tired we can take the bags.

Difficuldecisions · 28/03/2025 23:56

Yes that’s way too much. Get a suitcase with wheels

needapokerface · 29/03/2025 07:48

Depending on who you are flying with, will this fit the dimensions for a carry on ? The prices they charge at the airport for baggage not fitting in the sizing box are huge. Remember to count the wheels and the handle when measuring.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/03/2025 08:55

Who are you flying with? The wheels can often send the dimensions over depending on what you’ve paid for
