Has anyone seen it & if so what did you think? I loved Rachel Zegler in West Side Story. Although apparently she’s not done herself any favours with some of the stuff she’s said recently, including about the original movie. I just saw a reel & the song sounded similar to “ Part Of This World” from The Little Mermaid.

I read some awful reviews about how “woke” and far from the original it was so I was ready to be disappointed. It didn’t blow me away but was an enjoyable film. The songs were good and I liked the characters. I don’t see why it’s getting such a bashing online.

Wendalicious · 27/03/2025 09:29

I saw it with my 13 year old daughter and we both loved it- probably not Oscar worthy but a fun afternoon 😊

I wasn’t too keen on the cartoon and I don’t think it translates well to the big screen. It feels like something that should be a theatrical performance. And despite the main character’s comments online, which I was only aware of from the headlines etc., the trailer doesn’t look too bad though I don’t understand the need to CGI the dwarves. I have yet to see the movie and it doesn’t seem to be my cup of tea.

I don’t understand. How was it “woke”?

Chap at work went with his wife and two DD age 5 & 6 and he said that they all loved it.

TheHonestGreenUser · 27/03/2025 23:19

Have you been living under a rock? Apart from the choice of the casting itself, Rachel’s tweets afterwards have practically destroyed her own career, and disneys reputation. They had to hire armed bodyguards to stop people from killing her, and had to release a statement distancing them from herself and stating they’ve asked her to remove the tweets and it’s not the opinion of Disney. That movie casting is the potential downfall of Disney which has been going downhill for years

ExitChasedByAPomBear · 29/03/2025 02:20

@Nameftgigb What? I doubt this has destroyed Disney’s reputation, otherwise they wouldn’t have hired Gal Gadot. Disney has always had flops and successes and none of that has harmed its reputation. I wasn’t aware armed bodyguards were hired to protect the main actress playing the titular character Snow White. I haven’t really followed things that closely.

Can you outline what you felt was the problem with the casting?

I'm confident you can't be referring to the overt racists who have a problem with it. You must, of course, mean something else.

They didn’t have to hire armed guards to stop people killing her. They hired guards to protect Gal Gadot because she has spoken out in support of Israel. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, she is Israeli herself so it would make sense.

Thank you for clarifying this. So much false information is spread nowadays.

I don’t have a problem with the change in the story from the cartoon version. The one from the 1930s aren’t faithful to the Grimm’s fairy tales either. I think the original has the prince tortured the step mother to death.

Tumbleweed101 · 29/03/2025 07:31

I’ve seen it and we enjoyed it as light entertainment. There are a couple of scenes that very young children could find scary. I liked the story line around who kisses her to
wake her up. Snow White has a bit more depth to her than the original cartoon version.

FanofLeaves · 29/03/2025 07:38

Was she quite a big musical theatre actress?

All the new Disney songs sound the same, I can’t hear ‘when will my life begin’ from Tangled without merging it into ‘love is an open door’ from Frozen 🤣

MrTiddlesTheCat · 29/03/2025 08:17

We saw it last weekend. DS(11) loved it. I was bored by it. It felt very over acted and twee. DH fell asleep about 10 minutes in and snored through the rest of it, which wasn't an issue as we were literally the only people in the cinema.

PenniesButton · 29/03/2025 08:29

I enjoyed it but wouldn't watch it again. All the controversy has passed me by- what has she been tweeting?

PenniesButton · 29/03/2025 08:29

Oh and the dwarves CGI was shit and I wish they hadn't done it
