How long would you keep this in the fridge?

chicken breast, roasted Sunday evening. Cooled quickly and put into fridge wrapped. We use it for salads at work - in insulated lunch boxes then salads immediately into fridge.
how many days would you use it for out of interest?

Every Saturday or Sunday I slow cook a chicken and then store it in the fridge for lunches for the week. We always have some on the Friday and have never had any issues, it smells fine, tastes fine and we've never been ill.

I cook chicken on Sunday and still eating leftovers Friday and Saturday (don't eat it much in the week) it will be fine for a week, although dry if not covered.

I have a 3 day rule for leftovers in the fridge. They usually get eaten anyway within that time frame anyway. You have prepped and chilled it in a good fridge though so I'm sure it will be fine for longer.

Mulledjuice · 27/03/2025 10:22

I think it makes a big difference if the leftovers are cooled quickly, and in sealed containers - separate batches is even better as you don't bring the whole lot out of the fridge daily.

OrlandointheWilderness · 27/03/2025 11:54

Yes @Mulledjuiceits stored well and in portions.

Would it not depend on how far from expiry date is was before cooking?

No, the expiry date is generally when it needs cooked by. It is safe for 3 days after that as long as it is cooked.

I’d eat it Mon and Tue then throw any left away.
