I had a get together with a group of friends and a few newer friends came along (let’s call themMary and Jane) . We had a great evening. I was telling a story of something that happened me I man the past when I lived in another country. Jane asked “ooh when did you live there? What brought you there etc? After telling her the details she said. Wow you’ve lived a whole other life!
this prompted use to talk about our “other lives”

for example (and I’ll be vague on some details so as to not out people I suppose)

I lived in country X for 9 years and was a teacher and married
Now I live in a whole other country and do a completely different job, Studied new degree etc…and separated.

other friend
lived In Dubai and worked as cabin crew for 6 years
then lived in USA and taught yoga for 5 years
now lives in the country we are in and owns her own health food shop.

friend 3
married for 10 years in Canada and was a masseuse.
then separated and moved to the uk and trained and worked as an estate agent.
now live in the country we are in and is married again with 2 dc and is a sahm

most of us have lived 2-3 different lives it seems…

we laughed at how crazy it is how much life can change especially when you think it won’t!

so for fun, how many lives have you lived?

That's an interesting way of looking at things. I have lived 4 lives so far.

Oh I love this concept! I’m just in the process of moving into life 4!

Yolo12345 · 26/03/2025 20:47

I’m on life 6

Ooh I like this! I’ve lived 3 so far…..

3 so far. Think I might be about to embark on the 4th (divorce) imminently.

Interesting perspective... it depends on how different these lives are. I started my career in financial services and am now a nursery worker, but OH has been constant, so not sure if that counts. I categorise in phases of time

  • Uni
  • Moving to big city, flat shares
  • return to Uni city with OH, co habiting couple time
  • motherhood time

I have fantasy other lives though and they can get very specific.

A few (I’m always fascinated by people who married their childhood sweetheart, stayed in the place they grew up, in the same job since leaving school). Lived in different countries, had a couple of career changes (many jobs) & plenty of boyfriends (got married at 40). Had a surprise baby at 44, so it feels like I’ve had the best of both worlds on that front.

This was literally Jane’s life, she was fascinated by us and we were of her. Monet her dh at 14…stayed in the same city for uni and worked as a nurse. We loved her stability ❤️ and thought we were all crazy. She loved our adaptibility.
