Best places to raise family

I’ve never lived anywhere particularly nice and as my DC are getting old enough to want more independence I’m considering where I want to bring up my family. Currently living in the north west but I’m not sure my heart is here any more with all the issues with drugs and knife crime.

Somewhere relatively crime free, nice local community with things to do, not cripplingly expensive to buy a house, nice relaxed vibe.

Im sure these places or anywhere with a village lifestyle is going to be hugely expensive but I’ve been considering Bath, anybody able to share thoughts/experiences with me? Thanks!

@MoshPitMum post in property section. Say budget and requirements - garden, number of bedrooms, near a school for what age children, rural or suburban or small town or anything considered. Be specific as to what you're looking for AND that you want to discuss the relative social merits and demerits of areas people are suggesting. I'm sure you'll get a much better response there, this is too wide a brief and not really in the best section of the website.
Having said that, I lived rurally near Bath for nearly 20 years so that kind of area is possible. But I am older (kids long gone) so don't really have the age-appropriate info you want I'm guessing. But I was in a village with a 'village lifestyle' and you can get properties in your price range there but no point in me posting them without knowing whether you've got six children and ten dogs and a husband or it's just you and one dc and a budgie. 😂
Good luck!

I would definitely consider Cornwall. Truro is a lovely little city.

AnotherNaCha · 26/03/2025 09:51

Australia

Aggieaggieaggie · 26/03/2025 10:04

Don’t recommend Cornwall at all.
We’re looking at moving out of Cornwall to be closer to other cities / transport and living rather than existing.

(It was fabulous until the pre teen years though) I’m Cornish and it’s been a huge let down tbh. Bleak like the 90s

Living around Bristol / Bath looks great if affordable for you ☺️ my friends have just moved from Truro to Australia 🇦🇺 looks incredible.

Thanks for advice ladies, I appreciate it.
@Poutysorry if I ever win the lottery, I’ll be back to ask where ;)
