Anyone had a hip replacement?

If so, how did you know your hip was buggered? Did it come on suddenly and how debilitating was it?

I'd be very interested to know what your tell-tale symptoms were and how long before you knew you needed a replacement.

Can you expand on why the recovery was a nightmare please?

I had my right hip replaced 3 months ago - I wasn't in a huge amount of pain, mainly lack of mobility was a problem. I am 71 - I did a lot of exercise, particularly aqua fit/yoga beforehand to help build up my muscles, and that helped tremendously after the operation. I was back exercising within a few weeks and needed minimal pain relief after the first couple of days. I am now waiting for my left hip to be done - then I will feel fully mobile again.
