Which inanimate object....

....makes you scream with frustration?

Computer is the obvious answer but for me it's the MOTHERFUCKUNG HOOVER.
It seems to deliberately get stuck on corners, fall over it's own wire and then smirk at me with its STUPID FACE (guess you can tell the make!).
I know it's irrational but maybe it's a cathartic outlet??
So tell me - what inanimate object would you like to punch, metaphorically?

Printers ,self checkouts

Packets which you’re meant to be able to peel open from a corner so you can reseal them, but they won’t budge - if you can even get a grip on the tiny amount of plastic.

Oh, so many!

Packets that say "open here" that just tear across the way, so they can't be resealed

Loo roll holders in public loos, that are packed so tight that they only move a tiny amount when you pull at the tissue, meaning it rips and you only get a piece the size of a postage stamp

Jars of sauce that don't open unless you prize open the seal with a knife

The new coleslaw and dips at Tesco that don't have a lid, just a tear off top, so you have to decant contents into tupperware

Self check in pods at airports - make me panic!

Helplines that are operated by bots, who send you round and round in circles with no resolution

I can help with the pasta sauce jars at least! Have a look at your tin opener - there are little sticky out hooked bits on the sides and you can hook under the lid and prise it off (I'm not sure if this is what they're meant for, but it works). If course if you're one of those poncy sods with an electric opener you'll just have to get the butler to do it.

Can openers. We have a busted old one that works a bit and a fancy new one that doesn't work at all.

Yep, Henry fucking Hoover. And he's so bloody sturdy that he's probably not going to need replacing in my lifetime. Maybe if I throw him down the stairs...

I accidentally set mine on fire (vacuuming near a woodburner) and he's still going strong. They still work if they've fallen over so I just leave mine on its side to teach it a lesson.

ForPearlViper · 25/03/2025 16:47

I will add my vote to printers. Never mind working and not working, mine gives me snarky little messages. It tells me I didn't turn it off properly but does not provide any information on what should be done other than press the on/off button ffs. The message annoys me so much, I look away as I turn it on so it doesn't get the satisfaction.

Clingfilm is my Kryptonite. My other annoyance is my phone. If you hold it the way everyone holds their phone in their hand it is almost impossible to lock it without muting it at the same time so I miss calls/notifications.

Henry for me too. The way he collapses so apparently easily without putting up any resistance.

this is it. He doesn't even TRY.

oooo self-checkouts are a good one. I like to think i generally hold it together but I have definitely made some insane noises in Asda after the 7th "unidentified item in packing area"
