Take charge of Mother’s Day

If it’s important to you and you have a shit dp.
Dont let your shit dp ruin the day for you and organise something yourself.
Let your dc know that it’s Mother’s Day, ask them what they’d like to do for you then help them.
Get some nice food in, go out somewhere, whatever you want to do to make it a happy day for you and your dc. Enjoy.

This is toe curlingly embarrassing

fytyka · 25/03/2025 08:43

I used to have a shit DP who didn’t care about those things. I got rid of him. What’s wrong with yours?

If you have a “shit DP” you have bigger fish to fry than getting a card on Mother’s Day that you have asked for.

BlondiePortz · 25/03/2025 08:49

Wouldn't not being with the crap partner be more important than mothers day?

fytyka · 25/03/2025 08:51

I wouldn’t call it embarrassing. That’s not fair. The OP is obviously needing to vent and work out her feelings.
It can a long time to work out you need to get out of a relationship.

AnOldCynic · 25/03/2025 08:52

I think @TheScenicWayis pre-empting all the moaning post-Sunday threads by those that should know better having had a previous crap Mothers Day.

You wouldn’t, fair enough

I would

Yes this!
didn’t mean to be embarrassing but so many people will be sad on Sunday and post here.
I’m hoping they find another way then be disappointed with the lack of effort from others.
Its true that they have bigger issues but hopefully this will be a way forward.

Just another money making day - forget it.

TY78910 · 25/03/2025 09:52

I mean, as far as effort goes, my DH will get me some flowers and a card and give to DC to give to me. And I will do the same for him for Father’s Day. I don’t know anybody else, but expecting to make a massive hoohar out of it (booking a restaurant etc) is excessive. That stuff you can decide on as a family on the day surely whether you go out to lunch, or if you all go shop for some nice food etc? It’s not a birthday, it’s just a day to say acknowledge a mum and say ‘thank you’…

I wouldn’t call booking a restaurant for Mother’s Day a massive hoohar, I’d call it sensible. Decent restaurants will be fully booked, turning up on the day without a booking you would be unlikely to get a table.

Not seeing why it would be ‘toe-curling embarrassing’ to be proactive about making sure you have a nice day. Can you elaborate?

So with that in mind let’s write off
Christmas
Easter
Father’s Day
all birthdays
pancake day
anniversaries
and in fact every day where someone might feel like having a minor celebration 🤣

personally I prefer my life a little less miserable.

yeah in the sense that if you want to go to a restaurant on Mother’s Day it’s wise as it’s busy but I generally mean organising the whole day as if it’s a massive event (9am breakfast in bed, 9:30am open 20 gifts, 10am get ready and go to afternoon tea, 1pm lunch at the ritz) - those events to me are symbolic and don’t warrant intense effort and an itinerary.
