What the hell is this?

My ds just came home and shouted out for us to come outside.

High up in the sky was this. It was slowly swirling through the sky and had little lights all the way round it. It moved across the sky and slowly faded.

We are in North Essex if that's at all relevant? I have never seen anything like this. It was quite fascinating.

Any idea?

I was hoping it was the mothership coming to take me back too.

Ha, just saw this on facebook, local astronomy society. Gutted I didn't see it for real! "Anyone else see this temporary spiral galaxy earlier, looking east? (I assume a combination of a Falcon 9 stage separation and high cloud?)" Huh!

We saw it in Norfolk earlier, tried to get a photo but it didn't come out properly and then it disappeared.
