How much spending money for 5 days in Majorca?

Hi, I’m a single parent and am going on holiday with my 7 year old daughter in two weeks. We’re going to Majorca, for 5 nights. I’ve never taken her abroad before and haven’t been abroad myself since I was her age! We only have breakfast included with the hotel, but have plenty of shops/mcdonalds around for lunch and planning to pay for dinners at the hotel.

not planning to do any excursions, I want to keep it as simple as possible for myself since I’m already so anxious about going.

how much spending money will I need? I was thinking £500 (not sure what that is in euro) will be enough for the 5 days? Or am I wildly underestimating how much I’ll need?

I would think that should be enough if your not looking for expensive meals.
i always take a credit card for emergencies though. Enjoy!

Definitely not looking for expensive meals! My daughter is so picky that she just eats simple things and I think I’ll be too anxious to really eat anything heavy, I’m not sure how much the all inclusive buffet costs at the hotel but I’m just planning to pay for that each night if it’s not too expensive! and might venture out for a meal on the last night if I have enough left over from the week, I will have a couple hundred in my account as backup but could really do with not spending it

Where are you going?

It'll be lovely, Mallorca dead easy.

When we go I just use credit card and take E100 for bits and bobs. Can get sandwiches or bread and cheese from supermarket to have on the beach if you're trying to economise.

Hope it goes well. I enjoy going out for meals on holiday and always book self catering. We don’t drink much alcohol and that covers our eating out for a week with some left over.

@Namechange032025were going to a hotel called Sol Barbados in Magaluf, Majorca, it’s a family hotel away from all the partying haha.

im planning on doing supermarket lunches most days, my daughters really looking forward to seeing what the supermarkets are like over there!

Check where the supermarkets are as some times AL hotels can be in isolated spots and/or the shops near by are tourist shops which are more expensive.

I normally take £400 for 8 days self catering and come home with change. Get a monzo card and pay in euro, most places will accept card and it avoids paying fees on foreign exchange.

mlllie · 23/03/2025 17:21

I’ve hired a car to collect at the airport so will be able to drive a bit further out to find cheaper food.

wow £400 for 8 days is really good!! Do you just buy food from the supermarkets? I already have a monzo and Revolut card, I was planning on taking £100 cash and the rest on the card

For 5 days and not drinking I'd budget £60 a night to eat out - you'd easily get a main for you and simple kid food for dd, plus drinks. Ice cream for dessert as you walk off your dinner back to the hotel. I've never done hotel buffets, heading into the resort is far more interesting.

Have as big a breakfast as you can manage. Then supermarket lunch or even cafe lunch won't be too expensive.

Don't bother with the smaller spar shops, vastly overpriced on the whole.Theres an Eroski 5 mins from your hotel, and Mercadona in the resort.

Take an additional piece of fruit or bit of cake for snack too!

Haribosweets · 23/03/2025 17:34

I tend to budget £100 a day - but that's for lunch out, coffee shops, evening meals and then ice creams, gift shops etc. That is for 2 adults and 1 child so I think you'll be fine for what you have budgeted for 2 of you. Just have a card for any extras!

DebbieTheCat · 23/03/2025 17:36

Ah that’s lovely, you’ll have a brilliant time, Mallorca is gorgeous, we’re going in October.
£500 is almost €600 which is plenty.
Enjoy your holiday ☀️ 🏖️

Eroski is the supermarket out there. The big ones are big and have fantastic choice. Note if you buy fruit or veg the item will have a number on the ticket eg Banana 94. You go to the scale, put the item on the scale press the number and you get an adhesive label for the bag which you scan at the till. You can select English on the self scan tills. If you want bottled water this is the place. They do 5l down to the regular sizes

LividSunshine · 23/03/2025 19:48

I think that's plenty of money for the two of you, with the caveat that you should always have ACCESS to more in an emergency. Even if it's a credit card you never use, just in case.

Remember you'll probably want bottled water and stuff for the room in case you ever need to just laze around and not go out, even to the hotel restaurant. Travelling solo with a kid is wonderful but you forget how hard it is to not be able to pop out while they're asleep or whatever if you have no milk/wine/snacks whatever you've not got. (Bitter voice of being the only person starving in the all-inclusive resort while toddler had epic meltdown about going to breakfast/dinner/sleep...)

LividSunshine · 23/03/2025 19:49

Oh and you'll probably find local supermarkets seem pretty cheap, but the four hours or whatever you're stuck in the airport will cost you infinitely more!
