Is this a normal reaction to alcohol? Confused

I don’t drink because I don’t like the taste. I’ve tried a few times as an adult and it’s always left me exhausted if I tried to drink an alcopop

H got me a bottle of Smirnoff ice and I’ve had about 3 units of it. I am wiped out!

Tastes nice but I am 1000% back to being a non drinker.

Is this a normal reaction to alcohol? Or am I allergic or something? Everyone I know seems to be all chatty and happy when drinking but I want to tuck myself into bed and call it a night

I think it can be normal. If iv eaten a big meal alcohol makes me sleepy or if I'm sat at home drinking infront of the telly it makes me sleepy. If I'm socialising it has the opposite effect and makes me chatty and happy etc.

3 units of Smirnoff ice is 2 bottles I think? It’s very sugary so feeling extremely tired is quite an unusual reaction I think. It’s probably psychosomatic?

I'm a light weight these days. 2 pints of beer last night and I've had 2 glasses of wine tonight - I'm absolutely knackered. It'll be a very small glass each night to finish off the bottle

I don't drink either op ..if I do, I'm the same as you, just feel wiped out and want to sleep. I see drunk people on nights out all full of energy and dancing...I'm the opposite.

I don’t have a diabetes diagnosis. Is it a symptom of type 1 or 2?

I had pre diabetes to my shock and
horror a couple of years back but got it back to well within normal range. It was a shock because I was never fat

Not all diabetics are fat.

@TourangaLeila this was for type 2 - I thought most were

Smirnoff ice is more sugar than alcohol, probably a sugar crash! Have you tried a different drink? I used to drink gallons of that hideous stuff as a teenager and looking back all the times I was “sick from drinking” half of them would have probably still happened if I was drinking Fanta

Valhalla17 · 22/03/2025 22:16

Smirnoff ice is full of sugar...so that probably doesn't help OP

I’ve tried Whisky before (I actually like it neat!), but not a lot. It knocked me out, like I had been sedated 😴
