Heathrow Airport is shut until Friday night

And my husband is due to fly home to Australia on Friday evening. I predict chaos.
Airport is saying that people should not travel to Heathrow and should contact their airlines.

I'm hoping to fly back from Dublin to Heathrow on Sunday. Chaos is likely for a couple of days.

Looks like a fire at the North Hyde substation and has knocked out the power to a huge area. That’s going to cause chaos.

5 hours. We were due to land at just gone 6. Apparently we are just refuelling and then we will go back to New York. We are being kept updated and I am on a business trip so I don't have to worry too much about any costs I'll incur but my DD will not be happy I'm not home yet.

Lord what a pain. I feel so sorry for people heading on holidays. At least my DH is coming home - it’ll be a shame to be delayed but he’s also on a work trip.

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but I reckon it’s likely to be Russia? On the same day there’s a big meeting with lots of military chiefs in London there’s a fire that closes our countries major airport? Or it’s a major coincidence!

Well maybe but we have a load of other airports so presumably anyone VIP would just be diverted to City or Gatwick anyway.

I’m hoping they might move it to Gatwick or something. I mean, it’s a massive, busy flight, imagine having to get all those people on a different one. It’s not even like a short EU flight where you can just cancel them and people might be going for a business meeting and re-schedule - most people can’t just NOT go from the U.K. to Australia, they’d have a good reason to be travelling all that way!

I immediately thought of Russia. Given what they did in the channel with an oil tanker why would anyone imagine it’s outlandish? The Russian captain has just been formally charged.

We are at war to all intents and purposes whether people can stomach the truth or not.

I don’t think we can assume that every time something bad happens that there is a Russian reason behind it - sometimes fires happen at electrical places after all.

Looking at flight radar most flights have been diverted some are still saying they will land in the next hour or two..

We have flights now in and out of BHX. I really feel for those trying to get home or leaving for important reasons. Anyone flying over the weekend should aim to rebook elsewhere. Last time this happened it took nearly a week for things to return to normal.

I’m not sure flight radar updates that quickly. I watched one land at Gatwick just now which still said it was touching down at Heathrow.

I’m at work, on the Tube. There’s disruption on the Elizabeth line today. Last night Hounslows Central & West were closed, but they are open now, at the moment. If you are travelling in West London, check before you travel is the advice.

We’ve been told it’s an all-day thing too. I feel sorry for people trying to get home or go on holiday today.

Last thing: if you are already at the airport, be nice to the staff there. This isn’t their fault, and they are doing their best. Really, it’s best to go home and sort it out with your airline.

Can you rebook? Or reschedule? I doubt it will be fine by tomorrow. All the flights will be in the wrong place.
